Our client is a famous foreign specialty chemical company with HQ in Suzhou. Since the current site Manager will retire soon, they are looking for a Site Manager to take over all operation responsibility.

Suzhou Site Manager, Specialty Chemicals

SHE:
  • Takes the measures required to maintain the units in compliance with all internal standards and governmental laws, policies and procedures regarding environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Maintains or achieve all permits which are required for manufacturing at the unit.
  • Drives the spirit of continuous improvement in Personal Safety, Process Safety, Health and Environmental protection.


Quality / Customer Satisfaction
  • Prepares, controls, updates and transfers all process instructions in the area of responsibility with good product quality.
  • Maintains or achieves all certifications which are required for manufacturing at the site.
  • Ensures a quick, efficient and safe implementation of new products/ processes at the site.
  • Supports customers service to resolve customer complaints.
  • Liaises with Business units and Sales to ensure production targets are in line with customer requirements.


Cost:
  • Be responsible for the plant budget; take corrective actions to meet the targets regarding SHE, cost, quality, on time delivery and asset integrity.
  • Identifies and propose plant level initiatives: resources, process optimization, energy, yield, waste
  • Maintains assets and plant integrity, appropriate preventive and proactive maintenance.


Production / Operations Improvement
  • Keeps the site and all chemical and technical processes continuously under control
  • Decides on corrective actions as needed e.g. to solve technical, safety or quality problems
  • Takes continuous improvement measures to achieve world class manufacturing standards, using Lean tools, 5 S, Management of Change (MOC)
  • Delivers production plan, develop capacity and resource plans to ensure flexibility and agility to short term challenges
  • Explores growth potentials and pursue new business opportunities in close cooperation with marketing and sales


Engineering
  • Supports the yearly planning and implementation of investment projects in the plant on the basis of Business Unit strategies, capacity requests and legal requirements and asset integrity
  • Oversees the Engineering/Maintenance Section of the plant to ensure all process optimizing and new product development is carried out to support the manufacturing needs and process safety is in compliance


Leadership / Personnel
  • Leads, motivates and develops his organization in line with company policies
  • Gives professional, proactive support to his/her direct subordinates
  • Manages personnel resources issues in cooperation with his superior and HR
  • Manages the existing contractual agreement with the unionized staff
  • Hires talented people and develop succession plan for site key roles
  • Manages performance of individuals/all plant staff and reward positively or negatively
  • Approves most of related correspondence that carries the company name and that involves external parties
  • Complies with corporate guidelines, procedures and business ethics
  • Acts as the final plant decision maker in critical labor relation matters that may have plant-wide influence, such as discharges, settlements of workers compensation claims etc.


Meeting Business Plan and STRAP goals
  • Puts the manufacturing process under better control
  • Implements resource plan including staff replacement and cross training
  • Contributes to business success with improvement of the cost structure (fixed & variable)
  • Develops and implement a long term asset integrity capital plan
  • Leads local team for new ERP implementation


Tolling
  • When appropriate, accountable for the relationship and compliance of tolling operations associated with the site


Adherence to country laws
  • Ensures manufacturing procedures, environmental and safety procedures, and personnel policies and practices are in accordance with applicable laws
  • Interacts with country and local officials



Education (describe level of education for this position indicating if Required or Preferred (e.g. Bachelors, Masters Degree, Ph.D., Law)
  • Masters Degree in Chemistry or in Chemical Engineering - MBA preferred.
  • Advanced Technical university degree (preferably Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Engineering)
  • Technical or engineering education background with developmental course work in finance, accounting and management skills.


Experience (type and length of experience)
  • Must have managed operational teams, 5 to 10 years progressive Manufacturing Leadership Experience
  • Must have a vested interest for chemical processes
  • A demonstrated record of excellent people management, change management, strategic thinking, planning and organizing, decision making, risk taking, and communication skills
