Job Overview
We're seeking an Accounting Associate with a strong understanding of Financial Reporting Standards (FRS) and experience working in an Accounting firm or Corporate Service Provider. The Accounting Associate supports Senior Accountants in managing the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of client companies primarily in Hong Kong and Singapore. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring that Senior Accountants have clean, well-organized data to prepare and finalize financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Data Entry
- Record and categorize daily transactions (receipts, payments, invoices, bank entries) accurately across client accounts.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable on a regular basis.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and flag discrepancies to the Senior Accountant for resolution.
Month-End & Reporting Support
- Prepare draft accounting schedules and working papers to support monthly, quarterly, and annual management reporting cycles.
- Assist in compiling source data and preliminary workings for unaudited financial statements under the direction of Senior Accountants.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation for all transactions and supporting records.
Client Account Maintenance
- Ensure client accounting records are kept current and complete, supporting timely deliverables across the portfolio.
- Flag unusual transactions, missing documentation, or data gaps to the Senior Accountant promptly.
- Assist in responding to routine client queries on transaction records or account balances, escalating complex matters as appropriate.
Compliance & Standards
- Process transactions in accordance with applicable accounting standards (FRS) and internal control procedures.
- Stay updated on basic regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to Hong Kong and Singapore bookkeeping practices.
- Support year-end processes by preparing schedules and documents requested by auditors or tax advisors.
Collaboration & Process
- Work closely with Senior Accountants to ensure handoffs of prepared data are accurate, timely, and clearly documented.
- Contribute to process improvement efforts by identifying recurring data quality issues or inefficiencies in bookkeeping workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably gained within an accounting firm, corporate services provider, or professional services environment.
- Solid understanding of Financial Reporting Standards (FRS) and related accounting principles.
- Proven ability to manage multiple client portfolios while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with cloud-based accounting platforms is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken English, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team-oriented environment.
