You are a seasoned practitioner in platforms to run highly scalable and disturbed applications, bringing full-stack expertise across infrastructure, middleware, and applications. You know that just deploying Kubernetes is meaningless - you are persuaded it's all about adoption. You believe Kubernetes delivers business value only when it is operationalized, and applications are onboarded. You have worked long enough with Kubernetes to realize that though customers are keen to embrace Kubernetes, they struggle. And, you know that for customers to succeed with a complex distributed system as Kubernetes, they must make a paradigm shift, not just in their technical skill set, but also in their operational mindset. You are convinced that customers need expert guidance from someone who has been there, done it. You are that expert - a hands-on Kubernetes Solution Architect obsessed with helping customers succeed with Kubernetes. You can plot for them their Kubernetes Pilot-to-Production journey and help them navigate successfully. You are passionate about helping customers build their people, process, and technical capability to onboard, run and operate business critical applications at scale in Production to reap the benefits of Kubernetes. The Team
At VMware we believe that Modern Applications, and by extension Kubernetes will transform enterprise applications and infrastructure and the way Virtualization and Java have in the past. The complete Tanzu portfolio consists of products and services that transform how enterprises build and operate modern applications on Kubernetes. The Professional Services Engineering team of which you will be a part of is a compact, niche APJ level team which works together with Tanzu Specialist Solution Engineer's and Professional Services Teams across the pre-sales and post-sale continuum. The remit of this team is to provide thought leadership, and enable customers realize value from Tanzu Kubernetes.
What You'll Be Doing:

  • Executeon customer engagements across both pre and post sales, as a member of a team for complex engagements and solo for simpler engagements

  • Lead discovery workshops with customers to understand their business and technical drivers including discovery of deployment-ready application workloads targeted for deployment in Kubernetes.

  • Deploy and help customers operationalize Tanzu Kubernetes, addressing both cluster operations and application operations concerns.

  • Promote the adoption of automation techniques and ‘as code best practices to manage Tanzu Kubernetes in production.

  • Participate in mentoring and knowledge transfer to your customers

  • Support a culture of learning and sharing by contributing to our technical content libraryto amplify and re-use architecture patterns and solution assets for common customer use cases.

  • Work effectively and collaboratively with a remote and distributed team

Required Skills/Experience

  • 6-10+ years success in consulting or engineering roles, with responsibility for architecture, design and implementation of platforms for running distributed applications on private or public cloud infrastructure

  • 2+ years of practical hands-on experience in Kubernetes projects, including in Production, addressing various platform and application concerns like storage, cluster and container networking, service discovery and routing, observability, security, access control, high availability, and resiliency.

  • Practical experience in deploying stateful and stateless workloads on Kubernetes

  • Strong practical proficiency in Linux system administration, networking, firewall, DNS, and load balancing techniques for services

  • Understanding ofthe latestcloud trends and best practices, including Cloud-Native Architecture and Patterns, DevOps and infrastructure-as-code/GitOps principles

  • Proven competence to learn fast and educate others on rapidly changing technology across software engineering of modern applications, automation, and operations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective presentation skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50%(post pandemic travel restrictions)

Preferred/Helpful Skills/Experience

  • Experience with cloud service provider offerings like Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • The ideal candidate will have familiarity with virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V, vSphere, and vCenter, software defined networking and software defined storage

  • Participate and contribute to broader Open Source and Modern Applications ecosystem, Kubernetes SIG's, practice communities.
