The Cloud Management solution team is focused on driving business transformation and accelerating the adoption of VMware Cloud Management Platform solution pillar across focused industry verticals.
What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for
As Lead Technologist, you act as a technical thought leader in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region helping scale their knowledge across multiple strategic accounts by establishing long term relationship with customers, articulating and evangelizing Cloud Management solutions within the industry, and evangelizing these across VMware field technical teams.You will help define vision, strategy and multi-year transformation blueprint for decision makers and help them understand and choose the benefits of VMware Cloud Management Platform solutions for their business to help drive growth and at the same time mitigate risks.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing
We are looking for a Cloud Management Rockstar. To succeed you need to be motivated by putting your customers first; you understand what the customers need, and you provide sound advice to your customers in meeting those needs it. You are detail-driven, with an extremely strong technical background in Cloud Operations and Automation; and have a track record of excellent problem-solving skills. Ideally, you are well known in the Cloud Computing industry and you have lots of experience speaking in major technology event. You are consistently curious about how things work and love to tinker with new products and technologies. You learn from your mistakes, and you enjoy working with smart people. You are comfortable briefing senior leadership, even when you have bad news; you can communicate effectively with business and technical teams both verbally and in writing. You should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, products, and technical challenges. A keen sense of ownership, drive, and resourcefulness is a must.

As a Lead Technologist at VMware, you are responsible for:

  • Articulate domain and product positioning to both business and technical audiences

  • Identify all technical requirements to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle

  • Mentoring and enabling colleagues and business partners in a variety of locations

  • Maintain deep technical and business knowledge of Cloud Management, industry directions, and trends

  • Maintain working knowledge of competitive solutions and architectures.

  • Maintain knowledge of VMware’s wider vision and how your specialist products and services fit into it

  • Drive technical evaluation and validation conversations, onsite and remote, including product demonstrations and Proof of Concepts (PoCs) directly with customers or partners

  • Sharing technical knowledge in the VMware internal community

  • Work in close collaboration with Product Management, Product Marketing, etc.

Required skills and experience:

  • Solid experience in pre-sales for one or more of Systems Management, Automation and Operations, and Public Cloud Management technologies, including roles in Pre-sales, Technical Account Sales or IT Consulting

  • Experience in managing CI/CD pipelines, DEVOPS or Cloud Native Architectures will be an advantage

  • Experience in architecting infrastructure or application automation and operations solutions at enterprise scale

  • An understanding of the evolving business models of customers and partners, specifically focused on IT transformation, the emergence of Cloud and the need for IT Agility

  • Experience with Pre-sales Account Management and sales methodologies

  • Superb communication skills and personal skills with the skill to speak to audiences at all levels

  • Strong presentation skills and the capability to build and present high quality demonstrations to technical and executive audiences

  • Strong customer-facing and relationship building skills

  • Effective in working both independently and in a team setting, especially in large matrixed organizations

  • Experience with cloud delivered SaaS solutions and public cloud services including AWS, Azure and GCP will be an advantage

  • Strong IT-infrastructure technical skills e.g. scripting, Infrastructure as Code, x86 server platforms, network architectures, Windows and Linux operating system expertise

  • You should be self-motivated with a proven track record in software sales and knowledge of technology architectures

  • You are persuasive and influence senior enterprise IT Architects and C-level executives

  • Organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive means
