Our Senior DevOps Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) are responsible for ensuring the global availability of our most important Real-Time products and services. We place a high degree of trust and responsibility in the hands of our engineering leads. We operate a hybrid of public cloud, private cloud and managed data centers so the ability to work across these is vital.

The Senior DevOps Site Reliability Engineer Role

  • Leads engineers have strong AWS experience along with onprem infrastructure experience and the right mix of knowledge and skills in software engineering and architecture (i.e. programming, data structures and algorithms) systems engineering and the ability to lead others with similar skill sets

  • To succeed it is important to continuously learn and to expand our knowledge and innovate new ways of doing things to deliver value so a continuous learning and improvement mindset is key

  • We work in a highly autonomous environment where we place a high degree of agency and ownership in our leads so a high level of personal drive, work ethic and dedication is an important feature of successful leads

  • We constantly evaluate products and services before and after production releases to prevent, identify and fix problems that impact service availability in deploying, configuring, monitoring, recovering, and scaling.

  • We participate in on-call rotations to monitor and support our products and services, taking recovery actions prior to and after disruptions.

  • We dedicate at least 50% of our time engineering away problems both, directly and through pairing and coaching our team.

  • We work side-by-side with CLOUD SOEs in our team applying software engineering principles to resolve problems impacting service uptime or our operational efficiency.

  • 5+ years of experience in supporting and administering a highly reliable, scalable cloud environment and at least 2 years leading others

  • Hands on experience leading\managing large complex and long projects which includes planning, communicating and organizing and leading a team

  • Ability to lead complex projects and technical deliveries across groups and working with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Applying scientific principles of experimentation and measurement to system components to identify improvements to the configuration and architecture which improve reliability, performance and operability.

  • The ability to design, lead and deliver with a group of similarly skilled SRE \ DevOps engineers in a tightly integrated team utilizing the Agile method

  • Experience with building a highly secure cloud implementation and knowledge of the key security best practices

  • Strong experience designing, building, operating and troubleshooting with Amazon Web Services components

  • Programming experience in Python, Java, Node.js and other languages as relegates to AWS components and monitoring. Experience with other languages is also valuable such as Shell scripting, PowerShell, PERL or PHP.

  • Systems configuration and administration: Windows and/or Linux, solaris

  • Good understanding and experience with networking and trouble-shooting networking

  • Analyzing and discovering how all components of a distributed system work together using a broad range of skills and tools.

  • Excellent knowledge of the AWS API and Config tools

  • Writing code for AWS to drive system engineering activity such as system testing, load generation, instrumentation, log analysis, performance monitoring, error simulation and deep discovery of system properties.

  • Experience design and tuning components for reliability and performance within the core AWS stack and ability do full stack performance analysis

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless (lambda, step functions, etc)

  • Configuring and tuning server instances, application containers, message queuing systems and other middleware to improve reliability and performance in AWS

  • Experience with Git, GitLab, Jenkins

  • Experience with system and software configuration management and CD tools such as rundeck, puppet, chef, ansible, AWS CodePipeline, CodeDeploy

  • Ability develop CI\CD pipelines

  • Experience with key logging, event visualization and analytics stacks (ELK, Splunk, BigPanda, DataDog, Grafana, etc)
