Job Description

This role combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. Reliability Engineering (RE) is a mindset and a set of engineering approaches to running better production systems-we build our own creative engineering solutions to operations problems. The group is contributing to the availability of services, their security and regulatory compliance, and the customer experience associated with their domain. The group also guaranties the reliable, agile, and continuous flow of change required to optimize the performance of their platform ecosystem and performance of the customer service.
Experience in:

  • A systems thinker with hands-on experience with Lean and Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban

  • Google's Site Reliability Engineering framework

  • AWS services such as EC2, EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS, Service Catalog, CloudFormation

  • Equivalent Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform experience

  • Web Scalability - Highly available architectures - load balancing, scale out

  • Messaging - ActiveMQ, MQ Series, SQS

  • Cloud-based Database, Storage, Networking, Compute technologies / services

  • Cyber security fundamentals and working knowledge.

  • CI / CD pipelines and tool sets (Jenkins, Rundeck, Ansible)

  • Testing Frameworks

  • Source Control Management

  • Programming / Scripting: Python, Node.JS, PowerShell

  • Data Analytics and visualization in Power BI, Tableau, or Advanced Excel

Role requirements

  • The role requires good working knowledge of managing availability of business-critical services in a large-scale technology environment involving multiples systems and operating teams.

  • The ability to build or rebuild trust (post incidents) with LSEG customers relying on our company for their business is needed.

Key focus areas:

  • To liaise with the Infrastructure & Cloud function to ensure that Shared Technology infrastructure needs are understood and delivered as required.

  • Foster DevOps culture to increase trust and collaboration to deliver faster, more reliable release deployments and better feedback loop.

  • Release engineering mindset to engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services-from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.

  • Engineer and automate our application environments and SDLC, designing for security, reliability, and scale

  • Scale applications sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity

  • Solve operational problems by use engineering approaches in building innovative technical solutions

  • Focus on automation as first-class operating model to ensure stability and velocity during development

  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews

  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortem's.

  • Lead, coach, and mentor the organization with practical examples, hands-on workshops and papers

  • Proactively reviews and handles incident and request volumes to ensure the Technical Services team in collaboration with the Service Desk and other service lines is delivering appropriate service.

  • Acts as trusted adviser and SME for Shared Tech Infrastructure requirements

  • Implement / adoption of new technology and reduction of multiple overlapping assets

  • Drives cost reduction of Infrastructure and improvement service and delivery

  • Ensures that Infrastructure are delivering up-to-date technology that meets Shared Tech & industry standards and requirements

  • Approval of large-scale infrastructure programs that impact Shared Tech

  • Deliver Shared Tech Infrastructure strategy in close partnership with Infrastructure & Cloud and other Shared Tech technology Leads
