Job Description

Join our Bangkok studio and be a part of a global network of studios spanning five cities (New York, Bangkok, San Francisco, London, and Miami). Consistently voted as one of the top three most admired firms in hospitality interior design, you'll be working on conceptually driven projects which include restaurants, bars, hotels, and multi-family residential. You'll be working collaboratively with some of the smartest, and design-forward experts in award-winning hospitality-driven spaces and experiences.

The Technical Design (TD) Studio Leader is AvroKO's leader in developing, training, maintaining, and refining AvroKO's methods of producing project designs of the highest technical caliber appropriate to our project types and design vision.

The Technical Design (TD) Studio Leader's main responsibility is the day-to-day running of AvroKO's technical design team. The Studio Leader's time is split between mentoring and leadership of the growing team, alignment of the interior design and technical team goals and working methodologies, as well as resourcing and project management.

The Studio Leader is tasked to oversee the technical design team to ensure AvroKO's designs and deliverables are of a high technical standard and to help ensure our designs can be built to excellent quality of construction and performance. A high level of construction technology expertise and a sophisticated understanding of the relationship between architectural design and building technology are expected.

The Studio Leader is a hands-on problem solver and works closely with the Interior Design and AvroKO leadership teams. This role reports to the firm's Principals.

The core responsibilities are:

People & Culture

In collaboration with Partner in Charge, MD, and SD work towards achieving the following key goals:

  • Maintain an alignment of vision, purpose, and goal between the company's objectives and TD studio staff members
  • Lead a high-performing team that is engaged, strives for excellence and where individuals take responsibility for their deliverables
  • Ensure that there is a continued sense of recognition and appreciation of the studio staff members for their individual and collective contributions and achievements
  • Build a culture of trust, so that team members can express themselves and rely on each other and their leaders
  • Motivate and mentor studio staff members to be conscious of the business aspects and strive to excel in their individual and collective performance of the studio

Technical Oversight

  • In close collaboration with the Design Directors and Senior Designers, develop and direct the overall studio technical solutions
  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations on the technical aspects of design solutions with respect to current construction industry practices, and code compliance
  • Collaborate with project leadership to ensure technical performance, design and detail quality are in accordance with each AvroKO studio and project location
  • Collaborate with and direct Senior Technical Designers in the development of tools, techniques, and resources for effective and excellent technical detailing, commensurate to the different degrees of our scope of basic services and contractual obligations on projects
  • Take responsibility for quality control of all work the Technical Design team produces

Technical Coordination

  • Provides direction on the management of project design and delivery processes, with respect to techniques and approaches for interaction and coordination with consultants and contractors
  • Educates staff on reviewing and analyzing consultant and contractor documents, and what to consider and coordinate

Technical Management & Quality Assurance

  • Provide direction of the technical aspects of project delivery including implementation of the project document planning, standards for content and quality assurance, and establishing and maintaining construction administration processes and systems, in conjunction with the leadership team, for submittal review, RFI processing and conducting field observations and reporting
  • In concert with the leadership team, periodically review project documents to provide overall quality assurance checks for clear, complete, coordinated construction documents, with the goal of mitigating and managing risk to ensure minimal RFI's, change orders, and claims, and ensuring consistency across the office

Technical Training

  • Facilitate training to improve knowledge of staff including support and development of AvroKOllege classes regarding building technology, and engineering systems
  • Develop, direct, and maintain mentoring and coaching relationships with project staff

Project Management

  • Develop and manage project schedules and milestones along with a staffing strategy to ensure deliverables for each project are produced on time and in line with the AvroKO quality standards
  • Manage and monitor scope and ensure execution and delivery based on executed proposal or contract; notify clients of add-services as appropriate
  • Manage and monitor time spent on each project based on allocated budget per project
  • Liaise with the Finance team and Office Manager for billings and collections as it relates to Technical Design Department services across all AvroKO offices globally
  • Oversee timely submittal and accurate coding of project reimbursables
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, the Studio Leader shall serve as a Project Manager for ongoing projects as needed and depending on scale and scope or projects, and / or demands of the Studio Leader role given projects in the office and staff training needs

Administration

  • In concert with the Design Directors, regularly review all project documents to provide quality assurance with the goal of minimizing RFI's, mitigating and managing risks, change orders, and claims, but also to ensure consistency throughout all AvroKO studios globally
  • Establish and maintain drawing templates in line with AvroKO's Standards
  • Regular updates to the Managing / Studio Director regarding the status of the work and anticipated potential problems and proposed solutions

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture or industrial design, or equivalent experience
  • 1416 years of contiguous employment experience
  • Strong people and leadership / mentoring skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Good level of English & Thai
  • Sketching, layout, drafting skills
  • Hands-on attitude
  • Flexibility
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficient with design softwares & tools
  • Time-management skills
  • Handles constructive criticism well
