Role Summary
The NI Semiconductor BU CCS team is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer (Semiconductor Test Development Engineer) to support customer engineering opportunities that drive the adoption of NI products.
In this role, you will work closely with customers, sales teams, engineering teams, and alliance partners to define, design, deploy, and support large-scale turnkey semiconductor test solutions. The ideal candidate has experience in semiconductor production test, system-level design, and test systems, preferably NI-based platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Solution & Project Delivery
- Work with customers, NI teams, and alliance partners to develop semiconductor test solutions.
- Gather and document requirements and support Statement of Work (SOW) creation.
- Define project plans, manage milestones, and conduct project reviews to ensure successful deployment.
- Support system integration, validation, and deployment activities worldwide.
Hardware & Test Engineering
- Design and validate analog and digital circuits, signal interconnects, and communication interfaces based on DUT requirements.
- Integrate NI modular hardware into turnkey test systems.
- Evaluate systems for reliability, test accuracy, and cost efficiency.
- Support development, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of NI test systems at customer sites.
- Provide technical guidance and resolve critical customer issues.
- Travel domestically and internationally (30%).
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Applications Engineering, System Design, Test Engineering, or Technical Field Sales experience.
- Semiconductor test experience in areas such as RFIC, mixed-signal IC, RF FEM, PMIC, MEMS sensors, ADC/DAC, LED, or on-wafer testing.
- Experience with semiconductor ATE platforms such as V93000, UltraFlex, J750, PAX, or equivalent.
- Experience with test software platforms such as SmarTest, IG-XL, or similar.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, VB, Java, or equivalent.
Technical Skills
- Test and measurement equipment: SMU, VSA, VSG, VST, VNA, Power Meter, etc.
- Hardware/software integration and system-level design.
- Measurement accuracy, grounding, shielding, and instrumentation selection.
- Schematic capture and PCB design tools.
- Statistical analysis (Cp, Cpk, GR&R).
- Strong understanding of electronics, electrical engineering, and computer architecture.
