Job Description

Position Summary

The Architect Design Manager within the Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for leading the design, planning, and oversight of architectural aspects for various projects managed by the PMO. This role ensures that all architectural deliverables align with project requirements, client expectations, and regulatory standards. The Architect develops the design brief for new projects, collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, and stakeholders, and is pivotal in supporting the scoping and procurement of external design teams as well as managing the external architect to deliver functional, innovative, and cost-effective solutions throughout all project phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop the design brief for new projects in consultation with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Lead the architectural design process from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with project objectives, codes, and standards.
  • Prepare and review architectural drawings, specifications, and documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, MEP, and interior design professionals, to integrate architectural solutions.
  • Support the scoping and procurement of external design teams, including preparing tender documents and evaluating proposals.
  • Manage and oversee the work of the external architect, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements and quality standards.
  • Participate in project planning, feasibility studies, and site assessments to inform design decisions.
  • Support project managers in preparing reports, presentations, and documentation for clients and stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure quality control.
  • Advise on material selection, sustainability initiatives, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and resources related to architectural scope.
  • Ensure all architectural work complies with relevant building codes, zoning laws, and health and safety regulations.
  • Mentor junior architects and contribute to the continuous improvement of PMO processes and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed architect preferred, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in architectural design and project delivery, preferably within a PMO or consultancy environment.
  • Proficiency in design and drafting software (such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and sustainable design principles.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Reporting Structure

The Architect Design Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering, who provides oversight and guidance on all architectural activities and project assignments.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based with periodic site visits as required by project needs. Occasional travel may be necessary depending on project locations.
