Position Overview
The Assistant Accounting Manager supports the Finance Manager in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and timely reporting to support business decision-making in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends; provide insights and recommendations to management.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Monitor actual performance versus budget and investigate variances.
- Support cost control initiatives and margin analysis, especially related to FMCG operations (COGS, logistics, trade promotions).
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and review VAT, withholding tax, and corporate income tax filings.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
Internal Control & Process Improvement
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, and efficiency.
Business Support & Stakeholder Management
- Partner with commercial, supply chain, and operations teams to provide financial support and analysis.
- Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Supervise and coach accounting staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA, CPD, ACCA, or equivalent qualification is an advantage
Experience
- 58 years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably within FMCG or consumer goods industry
- Experience in inventory accounting, cost control, and fast-moving operations is highly preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards, taxation, and financial reporting
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to meet tight deadlines
- Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is an advantage
