About Us
CapturGO is building the first decentralized navigation and mobility intelligence network. We transform smartphone GPS and sensor data into real-time, privacy-first location intelligence, rewarding users for their movement and insights. Our mission is to rethink how people navigate, contribute local knowledge, and access smarter mobility services. By putting users at the center, CapturGO turns everyday movement into value and fuels a new layer of location-based intelligence.
CapturGO is a mobile application available on both iOS and Android, powered by a modern API and geospatial data engine. Our backend plays a critical role in enabling trip recording, location-based challenges, rewards, and real-time interactions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the CapturGO APIour core system powering location-based challenges, rewards, geospatial queries, and media processing.
You'll work on a modern Spring Boot/Kotlin backend and help evolve our architecture as we grow globally.
This role is hands-on and ideal for someone who loves building high-performance systems, working with geospatial data, and collaborating closely with mobile engineers to deliver a seamless product experience.
What You'll Do
- Develop and deliver high-scale microservices and REST APIs that power our core product features (challenges, rewards, media, and user workflows).
- Implement and optimize high-performance geospatial logic using PostGIS and tune queries for large-scale user growth.
- Code and launch resilient, cost-efficient cloud-native applications leveraging advanced Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub).
- Spearhead hands-on development on critical, complex systems, including:
- Rewards and token logic
- Real-time challenge tracking and spatial analytics
- Large-scale media processing pipelines
- Manage data evolution through structured schema design and hands-on Flyway migrations.
- Set the standard for engineering quality through automated testing (unit/integration), robust monitoring, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate directly with mobile engineers (iOS/Android) and product managers to translate feature requirements into technical solutions and deliver a seamless end-to-end experience.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience in a high-growth environment.
- Deep practical experience designing, deploying, and operating scalable microservices in a production environment.
- Expert-level proficiency with Kotlin and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
- Strong understanding and experience with PostgreSQL (experience with PostGIS for geospatial queries is a strong plus).
- Hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications and leveraging core services on Google Cloud Platform (e.g., Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub).
- Comfortable with REST API design principles, containerization using Docker, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of distributed and scalable backend architecture, including caching strategies and performance optimization.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate closely with mobile, product, and QA teams.
Bonus
- Geospatial Systems: Experience building and scaling location-based applications or complex geospatial platforms.
- Token/Rewards: Prior experience designing or maintaining token/reward system logic.
- Infrastructure: Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and managing container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes or GKE).
- Media Processing: Experience with large-scale image and media processing pipelines.
Our Stack
- Kotlin + Spring Boot 3.5
- PostgreSQL + PostGIS
- GCP (Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage)
- Maven, Docker, Flyway
- Java 17+
- OpenAPI / Swagger
