This role combines two strategic mandates: (1) driving merchant excellence across high-potential, commercial districts (OCD) in Greater Bangkok and key tourist cities throughout Thailand, enabling SME merchants to maximise sales capture from inbound tourists and local expats; and (2) serving as the central playmaker for developing and executing payment expansion projects in Thailand and across region and engaging acquirers, national switches, and regulatory bodies at the highest level
Key Responsibilities:
Merchant Excellence Platform Expansion and Excellence for Commercial Districts
- Identify and map commercial districts across Greater Bangkok and top tourist cities with high concentrations of SME merchants serving tourists and expats
- Conduct opportunity assessments to prioritise district rollout sequencing and set merchant activation targets by geography
- Build a pipeline of target merchant segments — retail, F&B, hospitality, wellness, and entertainment — that stand to benefit most from tourist payment acceptance
- Partner with DMs and ISOs to execute phased merchant onboarding and activation campaigns across priority districts
- Ensure DMs and ISOs are equipped with the right tools, training materials, POSM assets, and operational knowledge to maximise transaction volume and maintain a consistent, high-quality acceptance experience
- Define and enforce field execution standards and SOPs; hold DMs and ISOs accountable to KPIs covering merchant info capturing, POSM compliance, and transaction quality metrics
- Conduct regular field visits to key districts and tourist corridors to assess on-ground performance, identify execution gaps, and establish regular performance review cycle with DMs and ISOs — tracking daily/weekly transaction data, surfacing underperforming outlets, and driving timely corrective actions
- Collaborate with the growth teams to design tourist-facing campaigns and merchant promotions aligned to peak travel seasons and key holidays
- Identify opportunities to integrate Alipay CN, Alipay A+, and partner wallet acceptance into high-traffic tourist touch points
Payment Expansion - Cross-Border Payment Infrastructure (G2G & Direct Rail), Acquirer Relations & Regulatory Engagement for Emerging Markets
- Lead the development of comprehensive country business plans for markets assigned, covering market entry strategy, partner ecosystem mapping, revenue models, and TPV/GMV ramp-up projections
- Define go-to-market sequencing across merchant segments, key use cases, and payment corridors
- Build and maintain financial models, P&L scenarios, and investment cases to support leadership decisions and budget allocation
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard acquiring partners capable of supporting Alipay CN and A+ inbound acceptance at scale
- Negotiate commercial frameworks, incentive structures, and technical integration roadmaps with acquiring banks and payment service providers
- Engage national switch operators to establish or deepen interoperability
- Coordinate with internal tech/product teams to scope integration requirements, manage API delivery timelines, and ensure readiness for live transactions
- Lead partner performance reviews to track KPIs, resolve escalations, and identify growth opportunities
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with central banks, local payment networks and other relevant regulatory bodies
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5–7 years of working experience; familiarity with local cards/payment industry, e-commerce, and retail strongly preferred; strong finance and/or technology background is an advantage
- Proven track record in merchant network development, field operations management, or payment acceptance programme rollouts at scale
- Prior experience in Southeast Asian payment markets is a strong advantage
- Proficient in English and Thai (spoken and written); excellent cross-cultural communication skills
- Global perspective and clear strategic thinking; strong communication, coordination, and business negotiation skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate across departments, geographies, and business units to achieve desired outcomes
- Data-driven mindset; ability to build and interpret business models, performance dashboards, and reporting frameworks
- Willingness to travel regularly across Thailand and internationally as required
