Burmese OPI/VRI Interpreter - Remote

Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Burmese OPI/VRI Interpreter. The interpreter will provide real-time over-the-phone and video remote interpreting between Burmese and English for clients in sectors such as healthcare, government, business, and customer support. Daily tasks include accurately conveying messages, tone, and intent between parties, maintaining strict confidentiality, and adhering to professional interpreting standards. The role involves managing scheduled and on-demand calls, documenting session details as required, and using designated communication platforms and tools effectively. The interpreter is expected to respond promptly to assignments, maintain a high level of cultural awareness, and deliver clear, neutral, and unbiased interpretation.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in spoken Burmese and English, with excellent listening and speaking skills in both languages.
• Demonstrated interpreting skills in OPI (Over-the-Phone Interpreting) and VRI (Video Remote Interpreting), including consecutive interpreting and message accuracy is a plus.
• Ability to handle sensitive and complex subject matter across domains such as healthcare, legal, social services, and business while maintaining neutrality.
• High level of cultural competence and awareness of Burmese and English-speaking cultures to ensure accurate and respectful communication.
• Comfort with remote work tools, including stable internet connection, quality headset, webcam, and familiarity with online communication platforms.
• Strong professional ethics, including confidentiality, impartiality, and adherence to industry codes of conduct.
• Effective time management skills and reliability in attending scheduled interpreting sessions and responding to urgent requests.
• Prior experience as a professional interpreter or translator is highly preferred; relevant certifications or training in interpreting are an advantage.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, manage high call volumes, and support individuals in emotionally charged or urgent situations.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training, quality assurance processes, and performance feedback to maintain high interpreting standards.
