Job Description

The Category Manager reports to the Procurement Manager for Thailand and is based in Maptaphut Factory, Thailand.

The Category Manager is responsible for leading the procurement category; namely developing and implementing strategies in order to deliver cost-saving effectiveness for the business unit.

The Role Priorities Are To

  • Category Analysis & Market Intelligence Conduct comprehensive analysis and continuous monitoring of the assigned category (direct materials & utilities) by evaluating cost drivers, key input costs, index fluctuations, and market trends to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Cost Optimization Develop and execute sourcing strategies for direct materials and utilities to ensure cost optimization and significant Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reductions across the assigned categories through expert negotiation and strategic sourcing initiatives. Identify, analyze, and implement opportunities for savings, value engineering, and process efficiencies throughout the procurement lifecycle.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management Manage and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including internal teams, suppliers, and cross-border partners, to foster collaboration and drive category performance.
  • Contract Negotiation & Administration Lead contract negotiations and oversee contract lifecycle management to ensure favorable terms, compliance, and value delivery.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation Planning Identify potential risks within the supply chain and develop proactive mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions and ensure business continuity.
  • Regulatory & Market Change Monitoring Stay informed of regulatory changes and market developments affecting the category and adjust strategies accordingly to maintain compliance and competitiveness.

The successful individual will bring the following qualifications and experience to the role:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of proven success in Category Management and Strategic Sourcing, preferably within the steel or automotive industry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Communication: Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Core Competencies: Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, contract management, stakeholder influence, and analytical thinking.
  • Results-Oriented: Proactive in driving continuous improvement and delivering measurable results.
