Wood is recruiting for a Construction Lead to join our team for an immediate start, supporting the delivery of a major EPCM refinery project with a valued client partner in Si Racha, Chonburi, Thailand.

This expatriate role is available on an in country residential basis, offered as an initial 12-month contract with opportunity to extend your assignment for the life of the project.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Construction Manager, your immediate focus will be leading field construction activities across a designated project area, ensuring safe, efficient and quality execution throughout construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and handover phases of a major refinery expansion project.

You will play a key leadership role in driving construction performance, contractor management and project delivery outcomes while maintaining Wood's commitment to health, safety, environmental and ethical excellence. Leading by example, you will promote a strong safety culture, foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and ensure delivery against project milestones.

In Addition, You Will

  • Lead the safe and efficient execution of construction activities within your assigned area, ensuring compliance with project HSES, quality, schedule and productivity objectives
  • Provide leadership, direction and performance management for construction teams and contractors, establishing clear expectations and accountability for project delivery
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through field leadership, risk management activities, safe work practices and continuous engagement with construction personnel
  • Develop and maintain construction execution plans, manpower plans and site strategies to support successful delivery through construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning phases
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with client representatives, contractors, vendors and project stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes
  • Monitor engineering, procurement and construction interfaces to ensure alignment with construction priorities, mechanical completion milestones and commissioning requirements
  • Manage contractor performance, labour resources, equipment and materials to support schedule achievement and optimise site productivity
  • Ensure all construction activities are executed in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements and applicable industry standards
  • Coordinate construction completion, turnover and handover activities, supporting commissioning teams and securing client acceptance of completed systems and facilities

Expected

You must be eligible to obtain legal working rights in Thailand and be able to pass a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screen.

Suitably qualified with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline from a recognised institution, you will have 15+ years of industry experience, including proven experience in an Area Construction Lead, Construction Superintendent, Construction Manager or similar field leadership role on major EPCM projects within the Refinery, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas or Energy sector.

In Addition

  • Proven experience leading large-scale construction activities on complex brownfield and greenfield refinery, petrochemical or oil and gas projects
  • Strong understanding of construction management principles, contractor supervision and execution planning within EPC/EPCM project environments
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and consistently deliver against safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Extensive experience managing construction contractors and subcontractors while maintaining productive relationships with clients and key stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of construction interfaces, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and facility handover requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to HSES excellence and the ability to drive a positive safety culture across large construction workforces
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with experience mentoring and developing construction personnel
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options and implement practical solutions
  • Excellent planning, organisational and reporting skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment

Desirable

What will set you apart will be proven experience delivering major refinery or petrochemical projects within live operating facilities, including brownfield construction, SIMOPS, tie-ins, shutdown execution, commissioning support and system turnover activities. Previous experience working on large-scale EPCM projects in Southeast Asia, together with exposure to complex refinery process units and construction execution in high-density operating environments, will be highly regarded.
