The Data Centre Engineer is a subject matter expert typically responsible for providing designs, plans, installs, and maintains mechanical, electrical, plumbing.
The Data Centre Engineer possesses a proficient understanding of sensitive facility components that may be impacted by failures or malfunctions of infrastructure systems.
The incumbent proactively analyzes current operating conditions and recommends new preventative and proactive methods for maintaining and monitoring facilities systems.
This role also supports broader initiatives aimed at optimizing Data Center operations and ensuring seamless functionality across all facility systems.
Key Responsibility
- Leads the design, planning, installation, commissioning, and advanced maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and all other mission‑critical infrastructure systems supporting high‑risk, high‑availability data center environments.
- Maintains expert‑level understanding of sensitive facility components and evaluates the operational impact of system malfunctions or failures, ensuring risks are proactively identified and mitigated.
- Provides senior technical escalation support, guiding Facility Operations teams during complex or critical system incidents and driving resolution strategies and root‑cause analysis.
- Conducts comprehensive assessments of facility operating conditions, recommending improvements and implementing advanced preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Evaluates, updates, and optimizes facility standards, engineering practices, and operational procedures, ensuring alignment with reliability, capacity, and efficiency goals.
- Ensures full compliance with organizational, industry, and governmental safety regulations, and champions a culture of safety excellence.
- Leads and coordinates cross‑functional emergency response efforts, ensuring rapid, effective, and compliant corrective actions.
- Oversees adherence to operational processes, ensuring that facility services and infrastructure consistently meet or exceed operational SLA commitments.
- Drives lifecycle management strategies, including system upgrades, replacement planning, and obsolescence mitigation to ensure long‑term infrastructure reliability.
- Designs and governs maintenance programs for electrical and mechanical systems to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and streamline maintenance complexity.
- Analyzes facility performance metrics, operational trends, maintenance history, and utilization data to validate maintenance execution and identify strategic enhancements.
- Provides advanced, non‑routine technical support for data center operations, including diagnosing complex hardware, software, and control system failures.
- Contributes to and may lead aspects of datacenter infrastructure project development, including design reviews, feasibility assessments, and construction support.
- Performs any other advanced responsibilities as delegated by the Facility Operations management leadership.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent field experience demonstrating ability to perform advanced job functions.
- Relevant vendor certifications in electrical, mechanical, or control systems.
- Additional beneficial certifications such as AOS, ATD, CDFOM, CDCDP, or similar industry‑recognized qualifications.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of experience in Critical Facility/Data Centre technical operations and maintenance and/or engineering design of critical infrastructure systems.
- Demonstrated, advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, life‑safety, and monitoring/control systems used in mission‑critical environments.
- Strong experience with critical facility operations, maintenance programs, emergency response procedures, and SLA‑driven environments.
- Proven ability to assess and manage sensitive facility components that may be affected by system failures or operational deviations.
- Demonstrated advanced analytical capabilities, including the ability to evaluate, interpret, and clearly present complex technical and operational data.
