Key Responsibilities
1. Operations and Infrastructure Management
- Ensure the continuous availability and optimal performance of all critical infrastructure, including servers, storage, network components, power supplies, and cooling systems.
- Oversee the use of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software and other tools to monitor performance, capacity, and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.).
- Serve as the primary escalation point for all operational incidents, leading the response, resolution, and communication efforts to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate and supervise routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair activities for both IT equipment and facility systems (e.g., UPS, generators, HVAC).
2. Team Leadership and Management
- Manage and lead a team of data center technicians, engineers, and contractors, including scheduling, training, performance management, and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
- Develop, implement, and enforce operational policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistency, security, and compliance.
- Coordinate closely with other departments (IT, Network, Facilities, Security) and external vendors to support business needs and project execution.
3. Capacity, Planning, and Financial Management
- Monitor current utilization of power, cooling, and space, and plan for future infrastructure expansion and upgrades to meet business growth.
- Develop, manage, and track operational and capital budgets for the data center facilities.
- Oversee contracts, relationships, and service-level agreements (SLAs) with hardware vendors and service providers.
4. Security and Compliance
- Ensure the enforcement of strict physical security protocols and access control procedures for the data center facility.
- Guarantee that all operations comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS, Uptime Institute standards).
- Develop, maintain, and regularly test Disaster Recovery (DR) and business continuity plans to ensure data integrity and rapid service restoration in case of a major failure.
Qualifications
- Requires Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), or a related technical field.
- Expert understanding data center architecture, including power (UPS, generators, switchgear), cooling (HVAC, CRAC/CRAH), fire suppression, and network infrastructure.
- Several years of hands-on experience in data center operations and infrastructure management, often including 3–5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Proficiency with monitoring and management tools, including DCIM software, Building Management Systems (BMS), and ticketing/change management systems.
- Strong ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a technical team under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills in critical, high-stress environments.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey technical issues to non-technical stakeholders, manage escalations, and handle vendor relations.
- Proven ability to manage complex infrastructure projects, including timelines, budgets, and cross-functional coordination.
