Position Summary
The Deputy General Manager will play a critical leadership role in supporting the overall strategy, development, operations, and commercial performance of the data center business. This role is responsible for managing government relations, overseeing data center design and construction, ensuring efficient operations, and supporting business growth initiatives.
The AGM will work cross-functionally with internal teams, government authorities, customers, and partners to ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and achievement of business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Government & Regulatory Relations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant government agencies
- Lead applications, approvals, and compliance for data center licensing, permits, and regulatory requirements
- Represent the company in discussions with government bodies, industry associations, and regulatory authorities
- Monitor regulatory changes impacting data center development and operations
- Support land acquisition, utility applications, and infrastructure approvals
2. Data Center Development & Construction
- Lead and oversee end-to-end data center development lifecycle including: Site selection, Feasibility studies, Design coordination, Construction, Commissioning
- Work closely with Consultants, Contractors, Engineering teams, Project managers
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
- Oversee capacity planning and expansion strategies
3. Data Center Operations
- Ensure efficient and reliable operations of data center facilities
- Oversee: Critical infrastructure, Facility management, Maintenance programs, Vendor management
- Ensure compliance with: SLA commitments, Uptime targets, Security standards, Regulatory requirements
- Drive operational excellence, efficiency, and continuous improvement
- Lead incident management and risk mitigation
4. Business Development & Commercial Support
- Support business growth and customer acquisition strategies
- Work closely with sales and commercial teams to: Support customer technical requirements, Participate in customer meetings, Develop solutions
- Support contract negotiations and customer onboarding
- Monitor market trends, competitors, and expansion opportunities
- Identify new business opportunities and partnerships
5. Financial & Strategic Management
- Support development and management of annual budgets and financial plans
- Monitor operational and project financial performance
- Support business case development for new data center investments
- Drive cost optimization initiatives
6. Leadership & Organizational Management
- Lead and mentor operations and project teams
- Build and develop a high-performance organization
- Establish processes, SOPs, and governance frameworks
- Promote safety, compliance, and operational excellence culture
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Facilities Management, or related field
- MBA is an advantage
Experience
- 1218 years of relevant experience
- Minimum 5 years in leadership / senior management role
- Strong experience in data center industry covering at least two of the following:
- Data center development
- Data center operations
- Government / regulatory engagement
- Business development
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
- Data center infrastructure
- Power and cooling systems
- Tier III / Tier IV data center standards
- Regulatory and compliance environment
- Construction and project management
Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data centers preferred
