Design Manager

R&D DESIGN MANAGER - MANUFACTURING

Location: Eastern Seaboard, Thailand

Salary: Up to 120,000 THB + Benefits

We are partnering with a well-established manufacturer based in Thailand, known for producing high-quality engineered products for global markets. Due to continued growth and product development, they are looking to appoint an experienced R&D Design Manager to lead their design function.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership position, responsible for translating concept ideas into manufacturable designs, while managing, recruiting and developing a small team of design engineers.

You will act as the bridge between concept, engineering, and production — ensuring designs are practical, efficient, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the R&D design team (SolidWorks-focused)
• Convert hand sketches, concepts, and ideas into detailed 3D/2D designs
• Modify and improve existing drawings to enhance performance, cost, and manufacturability
• Work closely with production teams (fabrication, welding, assembly) to ensure design feasibility
• Drive continuous improvement in product design and development processes
• Support new product introduction (NPI) from concept through to production
• Ensure all drawings and documentation are accurate and up to standard

Key Requirements

• Strong experience using SolidWorks (3D modelling and detailed drawings)
• Proven ability to take concepts/sketches and convert into production-ready designs
• Experience modifying and optimising existing product designs
• Background in fabrication, metal, or engineered product manufacturing preferred
• Previous experience managing or mentoring a design team
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, welding, assembly)
• Strong problem-solving and practical engineering mindset
