About the Role
We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the Engineering function in building a reliable, high-performing, and continuously improving organization that drives sustainable plant performance and business growth.
The Engineering Director is accountable for integrating Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, Technical, Process, Projects, People, Data, Cost, and Performance into one high-performing engineering organization.
Responsibilities
Engineering Strategy & Governance
- Define and lead the Engineering Strategy, governance framework, policies, standards, and transformation roadmap aligned with plant and business objectives.
- Establish an integrated engineering management system connecting People, Process, Equipment, Data, Cost, and Performance.
Plant Reliability & Asset Performance
- Own overall equipment reliability, availability, unplanned downtime, critical equipment performance, bad actor elimination, and asset lifecycle performance.
- Govern reliability and maintenance strategies based on equipment criticality, failure modes, risk, and business impact.
Maintenance & Work Management Excellence
- Govern the end-to-end Work Order Management (WOM) Chain: Notification → Gatekeeping → Technical Review → Planning → Scheduling → Execution → Handover → TECO → Lessons Learned → Improvement.
- Drive the organization from reactive maintenance toward planned, proactive, and reliability-driven maintenance.
Technical & Engineering Excellence
- Establish strong Technical Governance and Engineering Standards.
- Govern Technical Review, Engineering Judgment, RCA, Failure Analysis, repair and design decisions, and major technical risks.
- Build strong internal Technical Authority and engineering capability.
Process & Operational Performance
- Lead Engineering support for Production to improve OEE, productivity, process stability, quality, yield, energy efficiency, and overall plant performance.
- Ensure engineering resources are focused on the highest-value business opportunities and constraints.
Project & Capital Management
- Govern engineering projects and CAPEX from business case, technical design, investment prioritization, execution, commissioning, and handover through benefit realization.
- Ensure projects deliver Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule, and Performance objectives.
Shutdown & Major Maintenance
- Lead Shutdown strategy, scope optimization, technical readiness, resource strategy, risk management, cost, schedule, execution quality, commissioning, handover, and lessons learned.
Engineering Performance & MCRS
- Establish and govern Engineering Performance Management through KPI and MCRS: Measure → Review → Decide → Act → Improve.
- Ensure engineering activities translate into measurable plant and business results.
Data, SAP & Digital Engineering
- Govern SAP PM/CMMS, asset master data, maintenance history, failure coding, TECO, KPI data quality, analytics, and dashboards.
- Establish a reliable Single Source of Truth for engineering and business decision-making.
Cost & Asset Lifecycle Management
- Own Engineering and Maintenance cost performance, contractor cost, spare-parts strategy, CAPEX/OPEX optimization, and lifecycle cost management while balancing cost, reliability, risk, and business performance.
Organization & People Capability
- Design and develop the Engineering organization, roles and responsibilities, RACI, competency framework, career paths, and succession plans.
- Develop Managers, Engineers, Planners, Schedulers, Foremen, and Technicians through structured coaching, field leadership, and Active Supervision.
Continuous Improvement & Transformation
- Lead the transformation from Reactive → Proactive → Predictive → Continuously Improving.
- Build standards, embed best practices, develop internal capability, and ensure improvements are sustained and replicated across the organization.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Administration, or Asset Management is an advantage.
Required Skills
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, Manufacturing, or Asset Management.
- Minimum 7–10 years in senior Engineering, Maintenance, or Reliability leadership roles.
- Proven experience leading a multi-disciplinary Engineering and Maintenance organization.
- Strong experience in process or manufacturing industries.
- Proven hands-on leadership experience in end-to-end Work Order Management (WOM).
- Proven ability to govern and improve Gatekeeping, Technical Review, Planning, Scheduling, Maintenance Execution, Handover, and TECO.
- Strong experience in Reliability Transformation / Maintenance Excellence.
- Strong experience in Reliability Strategy, Critical Equipment Management, RCA, Failure Analysis, and Bad Actor Elimination.
- Practical experience in PM, CBM, PdM, and RCM strategy development and optimization.
- Strong experience in Shutdown / Turnaround / Major Maintenance planning and execution.
- Experience governing Engineering Projects, CAPEX, commissioning, and benefit realization.
- Strong working experience with SAP PM / CMMS and Engineering Data Governance.
- Proven track record in improving Equipment Availability / OEE, reducing Unplanned Downtime and Repeat Failures, and optimizing Maintenance Cost.
- Experience establishing Engineering Standards, Management Systems, KPIs, and Performance Management.
