Job Description

Position Summary

The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the plant's engineering, utilities, and maintenance functions to ensure maximum equipment uptime, compliance with food safety standards, and efficient execution of capital projects. This role drives reliability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Reliability Management

  • Develop, implement, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensure maximum equipment reliability to meet production targets and minimize downtime.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action plans for equipment failures.
  • Maintain CMMS accuracy (work orders, spare parts, asset history).

2. Engineering & Projects

  • Plan and execute plant engineering initiatives, upgrades, and capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects.
  • Prepare technical specifications, budgets, and timelines for engineering modifications.
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and engineering consultants.
  • Ensure projects comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

3. Compliance & Food Safety

  • Ensure all equipment, utilities, and engineering activities comply with food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, BRC, etc.).
  • Lead maintenance-related audits and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure sanitation, allergen control, and contamination prevention.

4. Utilities & Facilities Management

  • Oversee operation and maintenance of critical utilities: boilers, refrigeration systems, compressed air, HVAC, and water treatment.
  • Ensure uninterrupted utility services that meet production and safety requirements.
  • Optimize energy consumption and implement sustainability initiatives.

5. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
  • Manage workforce planning, training, performance evaluation, and skill development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

6. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Manage maintenance and engineering budgets, including spare parts inventory.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure procurement of tools, parts, and services within financial guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of engineering/maintenance experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and reliability concepts (TPM, RCM, RCA).
  • Proven track record in managing capital projects.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to operational priorities.
