Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer and Senior Stakeholders
Role Overview
A privately held investment office is seeking an experienced and highly discreet Financial Controller to oversee its finance and accounting operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, multi-entity consolidation, investment accounting, treasury management, tax compliance and internal controls across a portfolio of companies, trusts and investment vehicles.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical accounting capabilities, excellent attention to detail and the ability to translate complex financial and investment information into clear, decision-useful reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and consolidated management reports across multiple companies, trusts and investment vehicles.
Manage group consolidation activities, including intercompany reconciliations, consolidation adjustments, eliminations, supporting schedules and variance analysis against budgets and prior periods.
Maintain complete accounting records in Xero, including journals, accruals, prepayments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and bank, credit card, investment and foreign exchange reconciliations.
Maintain comprehensive investment records across listed securities, managed funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate and cash instruments, including cost bases, acquisitions, disposals, valuations, income distributions, capital calls and commitments.
Reconcile investment records against information provided by banks, custodians, brokers, fund administrators and investment managers.
Prepare portfolio and management reporting covering investment performance, asset allocation, net worth, liquidity, cash runway and foreign exchange exposure.
Monitor cash positions, funding requirements and liquidity across entities and currencies, and prepare cash flow forecasts for operating and investment obligations.
Manage foreign exchange accounting, including exposure monitoring, revaluation schedules and reporting of realised and unrealised gains and losses.
Coordinate intercompany funding, payment approvals, cash transfers and other treasury and cash management arrangements.
Manage the annual audit process and coordinate corporate tax, GST, statutory filings and regulatory reporting with external auditors, tax advisers, corporate secretaries and other professional service providers.
Maintain tax records, provisions, deferred tax positions, withholding tax schedules and investment cost-base information across relevant entities and jurisdictions.
Support tax, accounting and structuring considerations relating to new investments, entity formations and cross-border transactions.
Monitor and support compliance with applicable ACRA, IRAS and MAS requirements, including Section 13O or Section 13U substance conditions and reporting obligations where relevant.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, segregation of duties and payment authorisation procedures.
Act as the primary finance contact for banks, custodians, investment managers, trustees, brokers, fund administrators, legal advisers and corporate service providers.
Prepare financial and supporting documentation for board meetings, trustee resolutions, investment approvals and senior stakeholder reviews.
Provide clear and timely financial insights to the CFO, Principal and other senior stakeholders, translating complex financial and investment data into practical decision-making information.
Identify and implement improvements to closing, reporting, reconciliation, data management and finance workflows, including automation opportunities and system integrations.
Maintain standard operating procedures and ensure finance processes remain accurate, scalable, well controlled and audit-ready as new entities, structures and asset classes are introduced.
Handle all financial, investment and personal information with the highest level of discretion and confidentiality.
