Job Overview
The GL Accountant will be responsible for administering various finance-related tasks regarding the preparation of accounts, financial statements, and providing support to the Head of Finance. The accountant will assist with the supervision and training of the Finance staff, in consultation with the Head of Finance, and for ensuring that proper accounting procedures are in place, and accurate records and reports are following statutory requirement and IFRS accounting standards.
Responsibilities:
Principal Objectives:
- To prepare timely tax submissions.
- To assist in monthly cash flow analysis ensuring smooth operational cash flow.
- To prepare monthly journals, balance sheet reconciliations and schedules (School Activities, Fixed Assets, Intangible Assets).
- To undertake intercompany and internal-charge transactions with other affiliated schools and companies within the group.
- To undertake reconciliation of billing issuance, credit note issuance, reconciliation of daily incoming receipt.
- Support the Head of Finance with external auditors for interim or year-end audits.
- Assist the Head of Finance with streamlining of finance processes and automation.
- To undertake various other finance tasks found in finance office including staff cover for other finance areas.
- To undertake other ad-hoc reports and tasks reasonably requested by the head-office and management including, if necessary, outside the finance department.
- To actively participate in the group's continuous improvement initiatives, such as D365 enhancements and A.I.
- Preparation of monthly closing reports, among others:
1. Head-office reporting pack preparation.
2. Budget holders report preparation.
3. Provide reconciliation reports between head-office and budget-holders reports
including internal charges from affiliates schools / companies
4. Reconciliation of Activities P&L and Balance Sheet schedules
5. Match AR & AP reconciliation reports by respective teams and provide necessary
feedback.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA) preferred.
- 35 years of accounting experience, preferably in multinational companies, educational institutions, or international schools.
- Experience with IFRS and statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience in preparing financial statements, journals, reconciliations, and tax submissions.
- Exposure to audits and interaction with external auditors is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial processes.
- Ability to prepare and analyze budgets, cash flow, and reconciliation reports.
- Familiarity with accounting software (ERP systems like D365 preferred) and finance automation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to supervise, train, and guide junior finance staff.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken); additional language skills may be advantageous.
- Proactive approach to continuous improvement initiatives, including system enhancements and process automation.
