Job brief

We are seeking an experienced Global Supplier Development Engineer to drive supplier selection, qualification, and performance management across our Southeast Asia manufacturing supply base. In this role, you will lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process for new product launches, coordinate technical reviews, and build supplier capabilities that guarantee flawless launches, zero-defect quality, and on-time delivery of series production components. You will also deliver hands-on Supplier Quality training and drive continuous performance improvement against established objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the company's Supplier Development Process at assigned suppliers.
  • Support regional and global needs in supplier screening, program launch requirements (APQP), and series delivery, under the direction of the Global Supplier Development Director and as determined by Business Unit and Regional Unit requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Quality System expectations, including tracking and controlling supplier conformance to IATF 16949 as required.
  • Conduct regular audits and special surveys at supplier facilities to evaluate manufacturing processes and confirm capability and compliance with all quality specifications.
  • Lead the APQP process as part of new product introduction.
  • Drive supplier performance improvement against established objectives and prepare periodic status reports.
  • Develop and implement quality initiatives to reduce costs and PPM. rates, support corrective action resolution, and improve 8D response times.
  • Review quality issues with Engineering and coordinate cross-functional technical problem resolution at supplier sites.
  • Apply Escalation Management processes in collaboration with Purchasing and Supplier Quality representatives, as needed.
  • Deliver training on Supplier Quality and Continuous Improvement standards across the supply base, applying established procedures, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Analyze supplier and sub-supplier capacity, and drive improvements to meet production requirements.
  • Assess potential new suppliers quality systems and production capabilities through site visits.
  • Provide input to commodity strategy.
  • Maintain and report on supplier status across delivery, capacity, capability, quality, and other key criteria.
  • Support Technical Change Management in the event of regional or global changes.

Requirements


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related discipline within a manufacturing environment (either supplier development experience in the automotive industry, or process quality experience in a machining and assembly environment).
  • Experience with relevant production processes and technologies such as metal forming, stamping, fine blanking, casting, and/or precision machining and assembly; experience with PCBA/PCB, electronic components, or motors is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and requirements to ensure adherence to agreed quality parameters.
  • Expertise in Quality Management System requirements and core quality tools, including APQP, FMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, statistics, structured problem solving, SPC, initial sampling processes, and Run@Rate.
  • Experience conducting product and process audits.
  • Ability to apply and train suppliers in problem-solving and process capability tools.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or national equivalent
  • Certified VDA 6.3 auditor or equivalent (high priority)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Shainin certification
  • Automotive manufacturing experience
  • Lean Manufacturing background
  • Expertise in customer-specific requirements
  • Skills in component cleanliness management (VDA 19)
