A Head of IT Operations and SOC is a senior leadership role responsible for the delivery of IT infrastructure and services, with a specific focus on managing the round-the-clock Security Operations Center
. This position ensures that all IT systems, including security functions, are highly available, secure, and aligned with the organization's business strategy.
Core responsibilities
Leadership and strategy
· Develop and execute strategy: Establish the IT operations and cybersecurity roadmap, aligning it with overall business objectives and growth.
· Manage the SOC team: Oversee the team of security analysts and incident responders who monitor, detect, and respond to threats at all hours.
IT operations management
· Ensure high availability: Guarantee the reliability and performance of all IT infrastructure, systems, and services.
· Oversee system administration: Manage the administration of enterprise systems, networks, servers, and other infrastructure.
Security operations (SOC)
· Threat detection and response: Ensure the 24x7 SOC team is effective at detecting, analyzing, and responding to security incidents in real-time.
· Incident response management: Lead and coordinate the response to major security incidents, guiding containment, eradication, and recovery efforts.
· Vulnerability management: Oversee programs for vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and remediation.
· Security technology management: Manage, tune, and configure security tools such as SIEM solutions, EDR platforms, and intrusion detection systems.
· Threat intelligence: Integrate threat intelligence into the SOC's operations to proactively identify and mitigate emerging threats.
· Ensure compliance: Work with internal compliance and audit teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal security policies.
Required Skills and Qualifications Experience
· Extensive experience in IT, with a significant portion in a leadership role managing IT operations and cybersecurity teams.
· Proven track record of managing and mentoring high-performing technical teams, including 24x7 operations staff.
· Experience with enterprise systems, network infrastructure, and cloud environments.
· Demonstrated experience in managing security operations, incident response, and threat detection.
Technical skills
· In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies.
· Expertise with security tools such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability scanners.
· Strong understanding of incident response frameworks and methodologies.
· Proficiency in IT infrastructure, networking, and system administration.
Leadership and soft skills
· Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of handling complex incidents under pressure.
· Exceptional communication skills to effectively report to non-technical stakeholders and communicate with the team.
