Job Description

The International Safety Director is responsible for planning and directing the Occupational Safety Compliance, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics programs and related activities in Tyson IBU. This position provides leadership, expertise, support, direction, and assistance in all safety program matters and ensures that the IBU is compliant with all applicable laws and conform to the corporate Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) requirements. This position leads the yearly Safety Improvement Plan and reports directly to the Corporate Safety Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Innovate, plan, and lead programs and protocols in all areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics for the IBU.
  • Direct, manage, and maintain the regulatory oversight for the International Business Unit. This includes regular monitoring of local, national, and international regulatory requirements for changes and developing and implementing programs to sustain compliance.
  • Lead, coordinate, and supervise [both solid and dotted line] a staff of safety professionals around the IBU to achieve department, division, and enterprise goals. Define protocols that standardize process for programs and procedures across the operations.
  • Ensure data collection and metrics align with Enterprise Health & Safety metrics, and implement operational best practices, working with the senior leadership team to develop appropriate KPIs.
  • Partner with the Operations leaders to drive safety program awareness through employee education and engagement building.
  • Lead and coordinate the services of external consultants to support occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics programs in the IBU.
  • Serve as the IBU's technical expert for Safety and be the expert advisor on implementation initiatives to meet regulatory mandates. In this capacity, provide an assessment of the impact of a change in regulation / regulatory status to a process or facility; identify deadlines/regulatory implementation dates; and, and assess the impact including deciding the status of a change as either immediate or phase-in, depending upon the issue.
  • Provide safety site regulatory assessments for potential acquisitions.
  • Participate in the recruitment of Safety personnel and educate, supervise, and mentor staff to build their core competencies, managerial skills, and technical competencies.
  • The role will require international travel.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience as the regional or global Safety lead for multi-national manufacturing companies across the Food, Chemical, Agrochemical, Agribusiness, Aviation, Industrial, Fertilizer, Petrochemical, and Mining industries.
  • Advanced knowledge in occupational safety programs acquired through education and training as well as through experience, multiple years experience in a manufacturing and distribution environment.
  • Successful track record leading the development and implementation of regional and global safety strategies and programs across multiple geographies and locations.
  • Solid understanding of national and international safety regulations and requirements, as well as best practice safety processes and procedures.
  • Bachelor's or higher-level degree in engineering or another related field, as well as a recognized professional safety certification i.e., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH and CRSP.
  • Fluent in English both oral and written fluency in Thai or Mandarin would be considered a plus.
