Job Overview
This role supports the evaluation and execution of investment and M&A opportunities that are commercially sound, financially robust, and strategically aligned with Banpu's strategic growth priorities.
The position works closely with Banpu executives, business units, and external counterpartiesincluding banks, funds, consultants, advisors, and potential partnersto screen transaction opportunities, assess value, and prepare high-conviction recommendations for senior management.
You will also participate in M&A and business development landscaping to identify promising external prospects and support the development of a pipeline of future investment opportunities.
This role is well suited for professionals who enjoy combining financial analysis, strategic thinking, and deal execution, working closely with internal stakeholders, senior management, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Investment Screening & Strategic Evaluation
- Review internal and external investment proposals for feasibility, financial attractiveness, commercial rationale and strategic fit, in partnership with internal business units.
- Provide feedback to business units to refine assumptions, strengthen analyses, in order to achieve cases that are decision ready for senior management.
- Assess and evaluate industry and sector trends, market outlook, competitive dynamics to support comprehensive evaluations.
- Present recommendations and viewpoints to senior management with clear and constructive viewpoints.
2. Financial Modeling & Commercial Analysis
- Validate financial models and assumptions prepared by business units or advisors.
- Conduct return analysis, sensitivities, scenarios, and risk-return assessments - highlighting key risks while maintaining a fact-based, collaborative approach.
- Summarize valuation insights and prepare investment memos for internal investment committee approval process.
3. Business Development & Opportunity Sourcing
- Support M&A and partnership landscaping across priority sectors (energy transition, resources, data centers, AI infrastructure, etc.), in partnership with business unit leaders.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating potential external opportunities (e.g. JV partners, acquisitions) in partnership with business unit leaders that align with Banpu's strategic themes.
- Engage with investment banks, consultants, PE/VC funds, brokers, and industry networks to source and screen opportunities in focus.
- Respond to inbound proposals and coordinate early-stage assessments.
4. Internal Investment Approval Process
- Ensure completeness of documentation, financial model integrity, and robust risk assessment to support the internal investment approval process.
- Standardize templates, checklists, and frameworks to raise analytical consistency and clarity across proposals.
- Coordinate with corporate specialist teams e.g. Tax, Legal, Finance, HR, Risk, and ESG teams to capture cross-functional inputs to gather critical insights and ensure comprehensive risk management.
- Support the Chief Investment Office's preparations for Investment Review Committee activities.
- Prepare investment memos, valuation summaries, and risk-return heatmaps for investment committee review and approval.
5. Portfolio Monitoring
- Monitor performance of portfolio investments.
- Identify early warning signals, improvement opportunities, and commercial upsides for proactive management of investments. Provide strategic recommendations to optimize performance of portfolio investments
- Support post-investment reviews and lessons-learned exercises to improve future investment proposals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or related fields, with an MBA or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, FRM) are an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in investment banking, consulting, corporate finance, PE/VC, or business advisory.
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with prior experience building complex financial models.
- Experience reviewing, analyzing, or developing business proposals; exposure to deal execution is preferred.
- Prior experience in energy and infrastructure sectors preferred
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and provide constructive recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Curious, analytical, proactive, and comfortable interacting with both senior executives and external partners.
- Strong proficiency in written and spoken English, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management and external stakeholders (TOEIC score of 700 or above)
