The IT Manager ensures the effective, secure, and reliable operation of all school IT systems, infrastructure, data, and services. The role supports teaching, learning, and administration through high-quality IT provision, strong cybersecurity, and efficient service management aligned with EiM standards.
Responsibilities
Management
- Management of the school's core information systems, infrastructure (servers, network, etc.), devices, policies and procedures in line with EiM guidelines.
- Liaison with internal users to understand their requirements.
- Deliver the development of the IT infrastructure, classroom AV, applications and data in support of the vision and objectives of the College and wider EiM group.
- Ensure data is handled and stored securely and is always accessible (e.g. business continuity, disaster recovery and system back up).
- Oversee IT hardware and software systems, assets and inventory, IT staff and service management across the College and track appropriate KPIs.
- Manage system standards in line with EiM policy.
- Coordinate and communicate with all staff regarding IT maintenance needs.
- Maintain excellent standards of IT services for all users.
- Manage IT vendor relations and regularly review performance while supporting EiM Group alignment.
- Manage and maintain software licenses, optimisation and renewal.
- Support College events and event spaces when IT support is needed.
- Set and monitor KPIs for user satisfaction, ticket resolution and proactive support.
- Manage hardware warranties, service contracts and replacement cycles in a timely manner.
- Work with EiM Cybersecurity team to adopt and enforce group cybersecurity policies, ensuring alignment across infrastructure, systems, and user practices.
- Maintain data protection standards, governance and practices, in line with EiM requirements and policy.
Technical
- Assist EiM's central technology team when optimisation and/or updates are needed to the school network and infrastructure.
- Assist in the identification, development and management of automation and AI technologies across the College environment.
- Provide regular e-safety reports from the internet filtering system to safeguarding officers.
- Perform IT related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the IT Services.
- Prepare written materials (e.g. procedures, system level documentation, reports, memos, etc.), for the purpose of documenting activities and systems.
- Recommend equipment, supplies, and materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns.
- Assist EiM in the implementation of network security measures as directed.
- Plan and prepare preventative maintenance schedules.
- Monitor and report on network performance and usage.
- Manage MDM and related systems.
- Ensure school assets are properly onboarded and monitored via key security platforms such as EDR, DNS security, and vulnerability scanners.
- Support the school's cybersecurity risk and incident management processes, including risk assessments, vulnerability tracking, detection and escalation of incidents, remediation coordination, and reporting.
- Manage vendor-related risks by facilitating 3rd-party security assessments and ensuring compliance with group standards.
- Manage backup and restore of in scope College data
Administrative
Financial management
- Assist the Director of Business Administration and EiM Technology team in budget preparation as well as procurement and implementation of IT solutions.
- Assist the Director of Business Administration and EiM Technology team in planning, managing and reviewing the yearly IT budget.
- Assist the Director of Business Administration and EiM Technology team in ensuring the best value for money is achieved in all IT contracts and purchases.
Staff management
- Lead and develop the DCBK IT team, maintaining a collaborative and constructive working environment within the department.
- Day-to-day line management of IT functional staff.
- Develop and track annual performance targets.
- Conduct performance reviews and professional growth conversations.
Project Management
- Assist the Director of Business Administration and EiM Technology team in the planning and organizing of College IT Projects.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Minimum 5+ years experience in IT service management or technical support roles (ideally in an education setting; ITIL certification or equivalent desirable).
- Some knowledge & experience configuring and maintaining network switches, and wireless access points.
- Experience in Windows Server environments (2019/2022), including management of Active Directory, DNS, Group Policies (GPOs), and PowerShell-based administration and automation.
- Experience managing virtualization infrastructure such as VMware.
- Experience configuring and maintaining Windows 11 OS.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Azure AD, and hybrid identity synchronization.
- Basic administration experience with Linux and macOS environments.
- Scripting or programming experience (e.g., Python) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of common school applications, e.g. SIS, LMS, and EdTech tools, is an advantage.
