We are seeking a Microsoft Purview & Data Governance Consultant to design, implement, and optimize enterprise data governance solutions using Microsoft Purview. The consultant will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to establish data discovery, classification, lineage, compliance, and governance frameworks across cloud and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft Purview Implementation
- Design and implement Microsoft Purview for data discovery, cataloging, classification, and lineage.
- Configure and manage Purview Data Map, Data Catalog, and Collections.
- Integrate Purview with data sources such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, ADLS, Power BI, Microsoft 365, and on-prem systems.
- Implement sensitivity labels, information protection, and data loss prevention (DLP) in alignment with governance policies.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Define and operationalize data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
- Support regulatory and compliance initiatives (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, SOC, PCI as applicable).
- Establish data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models.
- Enable metadata management, business glossaries, and data quality practices.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with business leaders, data owners, security teams, and IT architects.
- Translate business requirements into technical governance solutions.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions for users and data stewards.
Architecture & Best Practices
- Advise on enterprise data architecture and governance best practices.
- Ensure scalability, security, and performance of Purview deployments.
- Produce solution designs, governance playbooks, and operational documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or information security.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (mandatory).
- Strong understanding of data classification, metadata management, and lineage.
- Experience with Azure data services and cloud-based data platforms.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance standards.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer, Security, or Purview-related certifications).
- Experience with Microsoft Information Protection, M365 Compliance, Defender, or Sentinel.
- Background in consulting or enterprise-scale transformations.
- Familiarity with non-Microsoft governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Informatica) is a plus.
