Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and program direction across all aspects of manufacturing engineering, including process development, equipment maintenance, and product performance, with a strong focus on optimizing line efficiency through improved yield, cycle time reduction, process stability, and effective line control.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams within Lumentum, including R&D, Product Engineering, and Product Line Management, to validate requirements and ensure that process and technology milestones are clearly defined and successfully achieved.
  • Establish, qualify, and optimize assembly and inspection processes, including optical alignment and optical assembly processes.
  • Develop, issue, and maintain manufacturing documentation such as process flows, work instructions, control plans, visual aids, and SPC documentation.
  • Lead and support teams of engineers and technicians in resolving urgent manufacturing issues to achieve required test results within tight timelines.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to technicians and operators to ensure consistent execution of manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance processes, industry standards, and best manufacturing practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electronics, Optics, Physics, or a related discipline); a Master's degree is a plus.
  • 610+ years of experience in Manufacturing / Process Engineering, preferably in optical, photonics, or electro-optical manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English, including technical discussions and cross-functional presentations.
  • In-depth knowledge of optical mounting and alignment techniques applied to commercial free-space optical assemblies and electro-optical systems.
  • Strong understanding of electronic schematics, with hands-on experience in debugging and troubleshooting using standard laboratory tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Proven expertise in failure analysis and root-cause investigation, including the ability to design, execute, and analyze scientific experiments using data-driven methodologies.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and operators.
  • Experience driving process improvements, yield enhancement, and manufacturing robustness across multiple product lines.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to drive technology and manufacturing readiness.
