The Legal Counsel will be based in Shah Alam, Selangor, reporting to the VP of Legal.
To provide legal counsel advice, attend labor litigation processes, follow the corporate policies/ procedures, and eliminate any liability and legal risk for the company.
What a typical day looks like:
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on labor and employment matters. Manage labor lawsuits and disputes, including oversight, risk assessments and mitigation.
- Lead and manage litigations and disputes (employee, customer, supplier, and regulatory matters), including strategy, risk assessment, and settlement support, in coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
- Support Global Procurement & Supply Chain (GPSC) initiatives by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating procurement contracts for SEA sites (primary Malaysia).
- Deliver legal solutions that balance business objectives, operational needs, and compliance requirements. Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting Malaysia operations.
- Design and deliver legal training for operations and other relevant teams on key risk areas.
- Identify and implement process improvements and tools (including AI-enabled solutions) to enhance efficiency and consistency in legal service delivery.
- Provide commercial contracts support as needed, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating customer agreements, supporting customer claims, and conducting contract risk assessments with pragmatic recommendations.
- Undertake other ad-hoc assignments as required.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
- Bachelor of Laws (or above)
- Admitted to the Malaysian Bar
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience, gained as a counsel in multinational companies and/or an associate in reputable law firms.
- Proficient in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in Chinese is an advantage.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or operations environment is preferred.
- Strong experience in corporate and commercial matters, with excellent drafting skills and general advisory capability.
- Commercially astute, solution oriented with a strong sense of accountability. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Critical thinking, detail-oriented, self-motivated, team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and engage diverse teams effectively.
- Ability to use and adopt AI tools.
