Job Description

About CHG-MERIDIAN:

CHG-MERIDIAN is a world leader in providing finance solutions for the acquisition of IT, industrial and healthcare equipment. We are active in 30+ countries worldwide. Our customers include international corporations, SMEs, public authorities, and healthcare providers. For more than 40 years, we have been combining growth, digitalization, and sustainability for our customers based on the contemporary principles of the circular economy. As we continue to expand, we are investing in a strong and agile finance function capable of scaling with the business.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and pragmatic Legal Counsel to support our expanding operations across South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia, New Zealand), based in Thailand.

This is a hands-on, standalone legal role responsible for all regional legal and contractual matters. The Legal Counsel will act as a trusted business partner, advising on commercial contracts, leasing documentation, regulatory frameworks, and risk management within the Group's global governance structure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and leasing agreements with customers, suppliers, and funding partners across the region.
  • Provide practical legal advice to the business on leasing structures, master lease agreements, tripartite and referral arrangements, and related regulatory implications.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and leasing regulations across SEA and ANZ jurisdictions, coordinating with external counsel where necessary.
  • Support business development teams on transaction structuring and risk assessment for customer and vendor finance programs.
  • Advise management on corporate governance, data protection, and compliance matters (e.g., PDPA, AML, and consumer credit laws).
  • Liaise with Group Legal in Germany and Europe to harmonize local contracts and processes with global CHG-MERIDIAN standards.
  • Manage and coordinate external law firms for specialized local advice or dispute matters.
  • Support the set-up and licensing of new subsidiaries and cross-border business operations within the APAC region.

Requirements:

  • Law degree and admission to practice in at least one of the relevant jurisdictions (e.g., Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand or Malaysia).
  • 510+ years post-qualification experience in commercial and financial leasing law, preferably within a lessor, financial institution, or top-tier law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience in technology or equipment leasing and familiarity with relevant local leasing or credit regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and pragmatically in a lean regional setup balancing commercial objectives with legal and compliance safeguards.
  • Strong negotiation skills and comfort in advising senior commercial stakeholders.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Regional exposure or experience supporting multiple jurisdictions is highly desirable.

Personal Attributes:

  • Commercially minded and solution oriented.
  • Able to operate autonomously while maintaining strong alignment with global legal functions.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to work across diverse markets and cultures.

Our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:

We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive company that values and respects the differences among our employees. At CHG-MERIDIAN, we believe that diversity is not just a word, but a core value that drives our success. We recognize that every individual has unique talents, experiences, and perspectives, and we strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work.

If you are passionate about working in a diverse and inclusive company that celebrates differences, we encourage you to apply to join us.
