The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting the company's telecommunications and wireless network infrastructure. The role involves ensuring reliable connectivity, network performance, security and availability while supporting mobile cellular and other wireless telecommunications operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, implement and maintain wired and wireless network infrastructure.
- Install and configure routers, switches, firewalls, access points and network-related equipment.
- Support mobile cellular, wireless communication, LAN, WAN, VPN and internet connectivity systems.
- Monitor network availability, capacity, traffic and performance using appropriate monitoring tools.
- Troubleshoot network outages, connectivity problems, latency and performance issues.
- Perform network testing, optimisation, upgrades and preventive maintenance.
- Develop network diagrams, technical specifications, configuration records and operational procedures.
- Implement network security controls, access policies, firewall rules and data-protection measures.
- Coordinate network installation, system integration, testing and commissioning activities.
- Work with technology vendors, service providers, contractors and customers to resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical support and recommendations for new network projects and system improvements.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain backup copies of network configurations and support disaster-recovery planning.
- Ensure network systems comply with company standards, contractual requirements and applicable regulations.
- Prepare technical reports and provide regular updates to management and project stakeholders.
- Perform other network engineering duties assigned by management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in network engineering, telecommunications or wireless network operations.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VLAN, VPN, routing, switching and network-security principles.
- Practical experience with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and network-monitoring tools.
- Experience in mobile cellular networks, wireless telecommunications or network infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and connectivity problems.
- Understanding of network architecture, system integration, cybersecurity and disaster-recovery practices.
- Familiarity with Cisco, Fortinet, Huawei, Juniper or similar networking technologies is advantageous.
- CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet or equivalent professional certification is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical-documentation skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical teams, customers and vendors.
- Willingness to provide technical support outside regular working hours when required for critical network incidents.
