Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Packaging Engineer to design, develop, test, and implement packaging solutions for automotive components. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including product design, manufacturing, logistics, and quality to ensure packaging meets functional, cost, safety, and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop efficient packaging for automotive parts (metal, plastic, electronic, etc.) ensuring product protection during transit, storage, and handling
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials based on product type, weight, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to optimize packaging for cost, space utilization, and ease of use
- Create and maintain packaging documentation including specifications, CAD drawings, and test reports
- Conduct packaging validation and testing (vibration, drop, compression, environmental) as per automotive standards
- Support packaging development for new product introductions (NPIs) and engineering changes
- Lead packaging trials and implement corrective actions for damage reduction
- Ensure compliance with global packaging regulations, sustainability initiatives, and customer-specific requirements
- Analyze supply chain and logistics data to drive improvements in packaging performance
- Manage returnable packaging systems (e.g., racks, bins) and track container usage
- Interface with OEMs or Tier-1 customers on packaging approvals and requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in packaging design or engineering (automotive or manufacturing industry preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and packaging design tools
- Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, and OEM-specific packaging standards
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials: corrugated, foam, plastics, metals, reusable systems
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is a plus
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize under tight deadlines
