Position Summary
BABCOCK POWER IS LOOKING FOR A DEDICATED, TALENTED AND DETAIL-ORIENTED PIPING DESIGNER TO DEVELOP PIPING 3D MODELS, ORTHO DRAWINGS, PIPING ISOMETRICS, AND MATERIAL TAKE OFFS FOR ASME PRESSURE PART PIPING ON HEAT RECOVERY STEAM GENERATORS (HRSGS).
Essential Responsibilities
- Review project customer specifications
- Prepare piping isometrics and itemized bill of materials
- Communicate with other departments within the organization
- Develop and maintain 3D models
- Participate in internal and customer 3D model walk-throughs
- Provide thorough checking of drawings and bill of materials
- Assist with the review of vendor and subcontractor generated drawings
- Review vendor equipment drawings for incorporation into piping systems (e.g. valves, instruments, pumps, etc.)
- Review and respond to fabrication shop and field questions
- Create project as-built drawings, if required
- Maintain knowledge of current product designs, standards, and procedures
- Travel to jobsite(s) for short field assignments as required
- Identify/develop and use tools and techniques that improve the accuracy and/or efficiency of department and project work
- Delegate and coordinate within piping design group and designated subcontractors
Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering related field with an emphasis on statics, dynamics, and/or stress analysis is strongly preferred.
- Five (5) years similar piping design experience with a relevant college/university degree.
- In lieu of an engineering degree (10) years plus of similar piping design experience would be considered.
- Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated excellent analytical and computer skills required
- Ability to clearly communicate with English speaking co-workers, verbally and written.
- Familiarity with ASME codes and product application
- Proficient in the use of 3D design software such as the AutoDesk Suite of products (e.g. AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and Vault)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
