Mobility and Vehicle Technology Center (MOVE), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi
Location: Bangkok
Salary: 37,000 THB/month
Position Overview
The Mobility and Vehicle Technology Center (MOVE) at KMUTT invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of energy storage systems and offshore renewable energy integration. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research supporting carbon neutrality through advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS), with a focus on offshore applications.
Scope of Work
1. Comparative Study of Battery Energy Storage Systems
• Define selection criteria for offshore Lithium-ion Batteries (LiB) and Redox Flow Batteries (RFB) based on safety, runtime, modularity, efficiency, cost, and environmental impact.
• Collect and analyze technical specifications, performance data, and real-world case studies of energy storage systems.
• Evaluate offshore renewable energy sources (e.g., PV and wind turbines) considering offshore constraints.
• Establish performance metrics (round-trip efficiency, cycle life, renewable compatibility, carbon footprint, sustainability).
• Analyze system performance under variable renewable conditions and grid interaction.
• Assess integration of LiB/RFB with offshore PV and wind systems.
• Conduct techno-economic analysis including CAPEX, OPEX, and revenue streams.
• Identify and evaluate technical, economic, and environmental risks.
• Provide recommendations considering scalability and long-term sustainability.
• Validate findings through expert consultation and benchmarking with real-world applications.
2. Feasibility Study of Redox Flow Batteries (RFB)
• Identify suitable offshore deployment sites based on demand, renewable resources, and environmental factors.
• Analyze RFB technologies in terms of energy density, efficiency, scalability, and response time.
• Evaluate environmental impacts including lifecycle and end-of-life considerations.
• Assess risks and propose mitigation strategies, including regulatory and permitting requirements.
• Study integration of RFB with offshore renewable energy systems.
• Conduct lifecycle analysis from manufacturing to decommissioning.
• Perform energy scenario analysis under varying demand, renewable output, and economic conditions.
• Develop feasibility criteria (technical, economic, environmental) and apply them to offshore contexts.
• Summarize key findings and provide actionable insights.
Qualifications
• PhD in Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong background in energy storage systems, renewable energy, or power systems.
• Experience in techno-economic analysis and energy system modeling.
• Proficiency in energy simulation and scenario analysis tools such as HOMER Pro (or equivalent platforms).
• Knowledge of offshore energy systems and battery technologies (Li-ion, RFB) is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, research, and scientific writing skills.
• Demonstrated ability (or strong potential) to publish in high-impact (Q1) journals.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Key Deliverables
• Comprehensive reports and datasets for work scope 1 & 2.
• Development of validated models and scenario analyses.
• At least one Q1 journal publication submitted or accepted by the end of the postdoctoral program.
