Python Developer

POSITION OVERVIEW

The role sits in the Conduct, Control & Surveillance IT team (Market Abuse IT) and will lead the design, development, and maintenance of compliance‑surveillance models built on the SONATA 2.0 platform.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, test, and support Python‑based applications, including bug‑fixes and enhancements.
• Apply solid design principles to create custom solutions or extend packaged products.
• Contribute to initiatives that modernize the capabilities of the Compliance & Trade‑Compliance function.
• Collaborate with the Compliance team to identify, implement, and validate appropriate surveillance models.
• Ensure strict adherence to bank policies, security standards, and audit requirements.
• Mentor junior team members on technologies, best practices and processes.
• Share knowledge regularly within the team.
• Prepare high‑quality test plans and execute unit, regression, integration, and code‑review tests.
• Follow project‑ and organization‑wide standards throughout the software‑development lifecycle.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE (MUST‑HAVE)

• Python (including OOP, generators, magic methods)
• Pandas, NumPy, and other data‑science libraries
• SQL & PL/SQL (Oracle or SQL Server)
• Oracle/SQL database APIs (pure Python or native drivers)
• Data‑modeling concepts
• Windows batch or PowerShell scripting
• Familiarity with SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, Agile), CI/CD, code‑review and TDD
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence/ Wiki, ServiceNow

PREFERRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE (NICE‑TO‑HAVE)

• Experience with AI/ML modules or Prompt Engineering for model development.
• Exposure to data‑visualisation libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
• Familiarity with date‑time manipulation (datetime module) and regular‑expression handling.
• Knowledge of modern web‑development frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask) for full‑stack responsibilities.
• Prior work on SONATA, or similar surveillance platforms.
