Position : R&D Assistant (Lubricant Innovation) (Fixed term contractor)

Position Reports to: Manager, R&D (Lubricant Innovation)

Department: R&D

Location: Surat Thani, Thailand

General Summary of the Position

  • This contracted R&D assistant role is primarily dedicated to driving the new lubricant technology exploration workstream.
  • The role will work closely with the R&D Manager (Lubricant Innovation) to independently plan, manage, and execute tasks and projects as assigned. Key responsibilities involve planning project activities, hands-on laboratory work, conducting feasibility studies, coordinating with stakeholders and leading the team to discover novel technologies and/or to bring in new product benefits.
  • The role will operate within a strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) environment.
  • This role requires a high degree of precision, independency, ownership, meticulous documentation, and a passion for scientific discovery to help drive in discovery of new personal lubricant technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lab experiment and feasibility study: Independently plan, manage, and carry out bench-scale laboratory experiments to explore new ingredients, formulation techniques, and product formats for novel lubricant technologies. Drive the physical execution of feasibility tests to evaluate novel raw materials and prototype concepts, taking ownership of the testing process from start to finish.
  • Prototype development and product performance evaluation: Prepare raw materials and mix prototype samples according to aligned project plan and evaluate product performance using standardized test methods (e.g. measuring viscosity, pH, osmolality) or other measurement tools or techniques to support scientific discovery or new product benefits.
  • Systematically tabulate and summarize experimental results, conduct statistical analysis, and write comprehensive reports to validate findings and create summary presentation reports.
  • Maintain accurate and highly detailed laboratory notebooks or in a traceable manner and sample labelling in accordance to Quality Systems, ensuring all physical steps, measurements, and visual observations are recorded contemporaneously.
  • Managing business meetings with remote teams as needed.
  • Promptly communicate and manage any unusual physical observations, equipment errors, or unexpected test results with stakeholders.
  • 5S and General Responsibilities in R&D Laboratory and Office area, by ensuring that the QMS procedures are adhered to.
  • To actively manage and participate in plant trials or pilot machine trials in coordination with the broader R&D team when required.
  • To practice the Quality Systems adopted by the company and to conform to the regulatory requirements wherever relevant to company business.
  • To continually support the QMS systems and procedures (SOP/WI/TM) where appropriate.
  • To continuously acquire job-related knowledge for job performance improvement.
  • To take ownership of laboratory management in liaise with other R&D colleague with laboratory management such as chemicals control, equipment calibration, waste handling, housekeeping, document control, filing and support the organization of the lab where identified or applicable.
  • To give support and train fellow colleagues when required. To utilize available resources effectively and efficiently to achieve objectives.
  • To protect confidentiality of information related to the company work such that no unauthorized person could gain access.

Safety Risk Management:

  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external EHS rules, regulations and other Risk Management requirements.
  • To follow Safety, Health and Environmental procedures such as Safe Work Practice, ISO14001 activities, maintaining 5S activities on a monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the EHS activities e.g., report unsafe action, unsafe conditions, near miss, etc. as an accountability tool to measure safety performance and to promote the development of an EHS culture.

KEY POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Preferably a bachelors or master's degree in science and technology (chemistry, polymer science, bio technology, or related fields)

Job Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience (fresh graduates with the right capabilities are also welcome).
  • Prior experience in the personal care products or medical devices industry, specifically in research, product development, and/or a manufacturing environment, is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven ability to coordinate R&D activities effectively.
  • Knowledge of formulated products is an advantage.
  • Strong academic record with proven ability to work under pressure on multiple topics.
  • Strong analytical abilities and capacity to plan and organize work
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with cross functional teams.
  • Compatible with Thai work culture and other Asian / western cultures at same time.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures, as well as safety, health, and environment practices.
  • Basic understanding of Quality Systems, including ISO 13485

Desirable Job Competencies

  • Ability to communicate in both Thai and English language is required.
  • Good computer literacy to support daily work functions.
  • Good work and time management skills for both oneself and the team.
  • Ability to understand and mitigate risks or implications from the outcomes of activities and decisions made, while taking accountability and responsibility.
  • Business acumen, curiosity to learn new areas, attention to detail, ability to multitask across a range of topics.

Additional Requirements (travel, etc.)

  • Ability to travel locally and abroad for work is an added advantage.
