Position : Research Scientist – R & D

Position Reports to: Research Manager – R & D

Department: R & D

Location: Surat Thani, Thailand

General Summary of Position:

• To support research manager in driving research projects, innovation development and intellectual property (IP) generation by conducting advanced scientific studies, analyzing data, and contributing to technical documentation drafting.
• The role focuses on applying scientific principles in latex/polymer systems to solve complex technical problems and generate actionable insights for product and process improvement within a defined contract period.

Responsibilities & Specific Accountabilities

• Design and execute advanced research studies aligned with project objectives.
• Develop and optimize formulations, materials, or processes (e.g., polymer/latex systems, new material, additives).
• Interpret experimental data and propose scientifically conclusions.
• Prepare high quality technical documentation.
• Design, plan, and execute laboratory experiments and factory trials related to latex, polymer, and condom manufacturing processes
• Support new product development (NPD), including formulation, material selection, and process optimization.
• Identify opportunities for improving quality, consistency, and cost efficiency.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support to development teams.

Data Analysis & Documentation

• Apply statistical tools to analyze experimental and production data
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation
• Support intellectual property activities (e.g., invention disclosure, patent support) where applicable.

Compliance & Safety:

• Maintain compliance with all internal and external EHS rules, regulations and other Risk Management requirements.
• To follow Safety, Health and Environmental procedures such as Safe Work Practice, ISO14001 activities, maintaining 5S activities on a monthly basis.
• Contribute to the EHS activities e.g. report unsafe action, unsafe condition, near miss, etc. as an accountability tool to measure safety performance and to promote the development of an EHS culture.

Key Position Requirements

Education

• PhD in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Job Experience

• PhD with 0–3 years experience
• Experience in latex, rubber, polymer, medical devices, or personal care products is highly preferred.
• Experience in experimental design, root cause analysis, and process development.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge in Polymer/latex chemistry.
• Good practical and theoretical/fundamental understanding of latex, polymer technology and analytical instruments.
• Good understanding of laboratory and safety, health, and environment practices.
• Good communication including written and spoken English skills and interpersonal skills.
• Good time management for self and team and good people management skills and applies good project management skills.
• Good computer literacy to support work – e.g., analysis and presentations.
• Good personal accountability and responsibility.
• Able to apply statistical analysis of data

Desirable Job Competencies

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to communication including written and spoken English skills and interpersonal skills.
• Good work and time management for self and team.

Additional Requirements (travel, etc.)
