Main purpose of the role:
- Strategic direction: Assist the Group SHE Director in defining the Safety & Health deployment roadmap to align with Thai Union strategic goals
- Best-in-class occupational safety & health: Define Safety & Health standards and drive design / execution of Safety & Health programs; ensure compliance on zero accident across Thai Union workplaces through training, communication and audits
Key accountabilities:
- Strategic direction
- Support Group SHE Director in the design and delivery of the Safety & Health improvement roadmap
- Track group-wide plant / office performance against critical Safety & Health KPIs, generate key insights on persistent gaps and identify mitigating actions to deliver improvements
- Incorporate external best practices and ensure that Thai Union Operations maintain best-in-class Safety & Health compliance; identify areas for improvement and implement effective interventions in partnership with BU SHE Compliance Leads and Plant SHE Managers (as needed)
Best-in-class occupational safety & health
Standards and programs
- Develop Safety & Health related policies, standards and processes for the Group in line with overall SHE priorities and strategy; ensure learnings from past implementations are incorporated into future programs and policies
- Design groupwide Occupational Health and Safety programs and initiatives and provide technical advisory support to SHE BU Compliance Leads and Plant SHE teams during implementation
- Support assessment of the Plants certification requirements (e.g., ISO) and provide technical advisory to plant teams in attaining certifications where required
- Monitor regulatory changes, keep watch on external best practices and update Group Safety & Health policies and recommended practices as required
Compliance and audit
- Coordinate with and support BU / plant / Group function management teams in ensuring consistent Safety & Health policy implementation and adherence to the Group SHE roadmap
- Identify root causes of non-compliance and collaborate with relevant Plant SHE teams to ensure resolution
- Support Safety & Health audits and documentation (e.g., DJSI) in a timely manner, and support responses for external audits queries
- Design, schedule and conduct Safety & Health internal audits / inspections across plants
Incident management and Safety & Health initiative implementation
- Follow up on serious incidents and ensure appropriate investigation, communication and corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Collaborate with SHE BU Compliance Leads / Plant SHE teams in implementing workplace ergonomics assessments and necessary measures to resolve / prevent workplace injuries (e.g., repetitive strain injury)
- Advise Plant SHE teams on actionable measures to prevent and reduce adverse impacts from poor industrial hygiene / workplace standards
Capability frameworks, training and communication
- Work with Group SHE Capability CoE to define Groupwide Safety & Health skills and competency requirements, and in collaboration with HR and SHE BU Compliance Leads
- Coordinate with Group SHE Capability CoE to design and implement Safety & Health training programs, including Train-the-trainer sessions and cascade of cascade key environment communications to all plants
Other operations
- Support Safety and Health due-diligence assessments for new business acquisitions
- Select and implement Safety & Health digital systems and tools globally for the Group and plants
- Monitor status of SHE projects with high exposure / investment value e.g., fire protection elements; resolve roadblocks when raised
- Monitor and give inputs to any Thai Union projects / operational changes that have impact on occupation health & safety

- On-time update of Safety and Health standards and policies post regulatory changes / SHE roadmap priorities
Best-in-class manufacturing safety and health
- TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) and severity of accidents (including occupation health & safety, property damage, and other business interruptions)
- External audit findings in relation to site Safety & Health compliance
- Outcome measurement of safety audits and risk assessments vs. historical (including number of non-compliances, severity of non-compliances, etc.)
- Audit and risk assessment closeout rate (i.e., rate of addressing non-compliance findings)
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in Safety & Health standards to ensure employees safety, ensure compliance across Thai Union Group sites
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to conduct root cause analysis and manage safety & health related issues
- Demonstrate ability to make hard decisions, making the right trade-offs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for promoting safety and health initiatives and ensuring cross-functional alignment
