Job Description

1. Forest Harvesting & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Coordinate with forestry teams and teak wood project manager and government authorities for legal teak wood procurement and harvesting operations in compliance with Thai Forest Act.
  • Manage timber volume planning, scheduling of cutting operations, and log grading to maximize yield value.
  • Ensure proper documentation including timber origin certificates, transportation permits, and Royal Forestry Department approvals.
  • Monitor forest inventory, tree selection, and sustainable harvesting practices to maintain long-term supply.

2. Lumber Mill Negotiation & Processing Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with licensed teak lumber mills across Thailand for optimal processing terms and pricing.
  • Oversee the milling process to ensure quality standards are met for each wood grade and product category (e.g., boards, beams, planks, veneer, offcuts).
  • Track processing throughput, waste reduction, and value-added conversion from raw logs to finished lumber products.
  • Build and maintain long-term strategic partnerships with key mill operators, ensuring capacity priority and favorable processing rates.
  • Resolve disputes, quality issues, and delivery delays with mill partners in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide expert consultation regarding teak grading, grain patterns, Kiln Drying (KD) processes, and Moisture Content (MC) to meet specific client requirements.

3. Sales & Market Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy covering all categories of teak wood products: structural timber, furniture-grade wood, flooring, decorative planks, finger joint wood and wood offcuts/by-products.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of buyers including furniture manufacturers, construction companies, export traders, and retail timber yards across Thailand and international markets.
  • Set competitive pricing based on wood grade, dimension, and market demand; negotiate sales contracts and payment terms.
  • Identify new market opportunities in domestic and export segments (e.g., Europe, Middle East, China) for premium Thai teak products.
  • Achieve monthly and annual revenue targets for teak wood sales across all product lines.
  • Manage quotations, payment terms, and contract negotiations for large-scale projects to ensure successful closing.
  • Conduct continuous market research on teak price trends, competitor activities, and industry developments.

4. Product Classification & Inventory Control

  • Classify and grade processed teak wood into sellable categories (Grade A / B / C, by dimension, finish, and application).
  • Manage yard inventory and timber stock levels to balance processing output with sales demand.
  • Coordinate transportation and logistics from mill to buyer, ensuring proper stacking, seasoning, and packaging.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock in, sales out, and consignment movements using inventory management systems.
  • Work closely with sawmills and production teams to monitor inventory levels and perform Quality Control (QC) according to client specifications.

5. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all teak wood transactions comply with Thai forestry laws, including the Forest Act B.E. 2484, Forest Industry Organization, ISO, IEC, Wild Animal Preservation Act, and CITES regulations for international trade.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation for government audits, timber movement permits, and export licensing.
  • Stay current on changes in Thai forestry regulations, industry policy, and international timber trade standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Agricultural Business, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree or relevant professional certification is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in timber sales, lumber trading, or forestry-related business in Thailand.
  • Proven experience negotiating with lumber mills and managing wood processing contracts.
  • Track record of successfully managing B2B sales with construction, furniture, or export clients.
  • Experience with teak specifically is strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and commercial contract management skills.
  • Solid understanding of teak wood grades, dimensions, and market pricing in Thailand.
  • Knowledge of Thai forestry regulations, Royal Forestry Department procedures, and legal timber trade requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret lumber mill processing reports and yield data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); familiarity with inventory or ERP systems is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across cultural and professional contexts.
  • Willingness to travel to forest sites, mill facilities, and client locations throughout Thailand.
