Principal Activities (in Order Of Importance)
- Reporting & Analytics
- Create and maintain reports using:
- BEx Analyzer / Query Designer
- SAP Analysis for Office
- Enable integration with tools like Power BI where required
- Translate vague requirements into data models and reports
- Can explain BW outputs to non-technical users
- Data Modeling & Design
- Design and develop InfoObjects, DSOs, InfoCubes, CompositeProviders
- Build scalable data models aligned to business requirements
- ETL / Data Integration
- Develop and manage ETL processes (data extraction, transformation, loading)
- Work with standard SAP extractors (SD, MM, FI) and custom data sources
- ABAP Development (BW-specific)
- Develop start routines, end routines, and expert routines
- Enhance BW functionality using ABAP programming
- Performance Optimization
- Optimize data loads and reporting performance
- Monitor and improve query performance
- System Monitoring & Support
- Monitor BW jobs, process chains, and data loads
- Troubleshoot data inconsistencies and failures
- Troubleshooting data inconsistencies, failed loads, performance issues
- Integration with SAP Systems
- Integrate BW with:
- SAP ECC / S4
- External systems and APIs
- Ensure proper data flow across systems
- Documentation & Testing
- Prepare technical design documents
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, and UAT support
- Maintain audit-ready documentation (important for compliance environments, as seen in BW encryption/data handling use cases)
Candidate Requirements
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Functional / Business Skills
- Understanding of business (sales, finance, operational) data flows
- Ability to translate business requirements into BW solutions
Technical Skills
- SAP BW 7.5 / BW on HANA
- Data modeling (InfoObjects, DSO, MultiProvider)
- ETL design & data warehousing concepts (Star Schema, LSA++)
- ABAP for BW (routines, enhancements)
- Reporting tools: BEx, Analysis for Office
- SAP Extractors (SD, MM, FI) – preferred
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical & problem-solving ability
- Stakeholder communication (business + IT)
- Documentation and structured thinking
- Think root-cause, not symptoms and structure problems logically.
- Clear, structured explanations to stakeholders
Education & Experience
- Min 6 years experience in SAP BW / BI projects
- Bachelor's / Master's in IT, Engineering, or Business Informatics
- 4+ Experience in end-to-end BW implementation or support projects
