Primary School Social and Emotional Counsellor (Starting 2026/27)

Job overview

Primary School Social and Emotional Counsellor (Starting 2026/27)

(Appropriate Counselling Qualification and Accreditation Required)

Bangkok Patana School is seeking a compassionate, skilled and values-driven Primary Counsellor to join our team from August 2026.

This important role sits at the heart of our pastoral provision, supporting students, families and staff to promote positive mental health, emotional development and a strong sense of belonging. The counsellor provides responsive, child-centred support through individual and small group work, while also guiding staff to strengthen inclusive, relational and nurturing classroom practice.

Working collaboratively with the pastoral, safeguarding and inclusion teams, the postholder contributes to a safe and supportive environment where students feel secure, understood and ready to learn. Through thoughtful communication, professional insight and a proactive approach, the counsellor helps ensure that wellbeing and learning are closely connected, enabling all students to participate fully and thrive within our school community.

Why Bangkok Patana

Our campus offers state-of-the-art facilities, including specialist classrooms, extensive digital resources, and a thriving extracurricular programme. Set in vibrant Bangkok, you will enjoy one of the most dynamic cities in Asia with a welcoming expatriate community, excellent professional development opportunities, and a supportive, collaborative team culture.

Is this a good fit for you

The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced counsellor with a strong track record of supporting primary children within an educational or comparable setting. They will bring sound professional judgement, a high level of emotional intelligence, and a calm, compassionate presence, building trust with students, families and colleagues.

They will demonstrate a secure understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries, alongside the ability to respond thoughtfully to a wide range of social and emotional needs. The successful candidate will hold relevant counselling qualifications and accreditation, and show a commitment to ongoing professional learning and supervision.

A collaborative approach is essential. The counsellor will work effectively as part of a wider pastoral and safeguarding team, contributing to a joined-up approach that supports student wellbeing, participation and engagement in school life. Experience of working in an international or culturally diverse setting will be an advantage. Above all, they will be committed to fostering a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels heard, supported and able to thrive.

These are aligned with the written expectations of the International Taskforce on Child Protection.

Inclusion, Diversity and Equity

Our polices and practice are shaped by the diverse international community we serve. We treat all members of our School community including colleagues, students and members of the public fairly and consistently, in a non-discriminatory manner and with proper regard for their rights and obligations.
