Job Description

Bangkok Patana School is seeking to recruit an experienced full-time Science Technician – Chemistry. Candidates with experience coordinating laboratory activities, strong chemistry knowledge, and bilingual proficiency in English and Thai will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Science Faculty mission of Excellence in Science Learning for All
  • Prepare lab equipment and practical based resources to support student learning in teacher-led lessons, consistent with the following

o Safety - resources are prepared following all the correct H+S procedures.

o Punctuality - resources are in place before the start of the lesson.

o Accuracy - resources are accurately prepared.

o Proactivity - problems with resources not fully supporting learning are anticipated, steps are taken to address the problem and teachers are informed.

  • Support in-class instruction of students as requested by Line Manager to support student learning, enhance the learning experience for students and to maintain safe student-teacher ratios during visits.
  • Be an advocate for the learning of science and communicate this passion with the wider Patana community.
  • Share expert technical knowledge with teachers to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Regularly check laboratories and prep rooms to ensure they are fully resourced and in good working order. Report and follows up on any maintenance issues.
  • Maintain an inventory of apparatus, chemicals, stationery, and other materials in the laboratories and prep rooms. Proactively recommend replacements as necessary.
  • Ensure all practical resources (including corrosive chemicals, flammable chemicals, enzymes, radioactive sources, etc) are stored in a safe, tidy, and organized way according to the correct H+S guidelines.
  • Proactively carry out minor maintenance of practical equipment and arrange for repairs where necessary.
  • Maintain records of students work (internal examinations, etc) to ensure they are complete and secure.
  • Care for animals within the Science Faculty and actively promote their value as a learning resource.
  • Assist with display materials within the Science Centre so that the learning environment is enhanced for students.
  • Assist with reprographic work as required.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the other members of the Science Technician team to ensure that all the above responsibilities are consistently delivered upon to a very high standard.
  • Perform any other duty as may be required and agreed with the Line Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, or related with at least 5 or more years relevant experience in a service delivery and international environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a clear and logical way across a wide spectrum of staff.
  • Systems orientated with proven ability to accurately access and manage data and implement system improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in various contexts with a high customer service ethic and a focus on quality.
