Senior Automation Test Engineer – Embedded BLE / RTLS
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Automation Test Engineer to join our engineering team as an individual contributor responsible for automation framework development and system-level testing of our BLE-based Real-Time Location System (RTLS) product family, The ideal candidate will have strong experience in embedded product testing, BLE-based systems, and automation using Python and C/C++, with a solid understanding of hardware–software integration across the complete product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Design and own a scalable Python-based automation framework for system, integration, regression, HIL and E2E validation of BLE RTLS workflows.
- Develop test harnesses for MQTT topics, AWS IoT Device Shadows, Greengrass/edge components, REST/GraphQL APIs, protobuf/message schemas, telemetry replay, and cloud/edge orchestration workflows.
- Automate BLE validation for advertising, scanning, CTE/AoA-related data paths, GATT/L2CAP interactions, connection handling, RSSI/IQ telemetry collection, role transitions and device state changes.
- Develop reusable simulators, stubs, replay tools and contract tests to reduce dependency on expensive RF/HIL lab execution while preserving system-level confidence.
- Debug failures across embedded firmware, BLE/RF, RTOS tasks, edge services, cloud orchestration, MQTT/shadow synchronization, database/cache layers and external integrations.
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, cloud, edge, DevOps and system test teams to convert HLD/TRD requirements into executable test cases, automation backlog, risk-based coverage and measurable acceptance criteria
Required Technical Skills
- Expertise in Python automation framework development using pytest/unittest, fixtures, parametrization, mocking, logging, multiprocessing/async execution, robust reporting and maintainable test architecture.
- Hands-on embedded system validation experience with BLE-based products, real-time constraints, firmware state machines, boot flows, power modes, hardware interfaces and field-device diagnostics.
- Strong understanding of BLE fundamentals: advertising, scanning, GATT, L2CAP, connection parameters, RSSI, BLE 5.1+ CTE/AoA concepts, sniffer-based debugging and packet/log analysis.
- Experience automating hardware-in-loop setups using serial/UART, TCP/UDP, USB, GPIO/relay control, programmable power supplies, current analyzers, logic analyzers and BLE sniffers.
- Working knowledge of C/C++ for firmware-level debugging, log interpretation, test hooks, protocol parsing and collaboration with embedded developers.
- Experience with Linux-based edge systems, Docker/containerized test environments, service orchestration, logs, process control, networking and shell scripting.
- Knowledge of MQTT, message brokers, protobuf/JSON payloads, REST/GraphQL APIs, AWS IoT Core, Device Shadows, Greengrass concepts, certificates and secure device communication.
- Experience with CI/CD integration using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Octopus or equivalent, including automated reporting and release gating.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills with the ability to isolate defects across firmware, hardware, RF, edge services, cloud APIs, databases/caches and network layers.
