Job Purpose:
The Buyer/Senior Buyer is responsible for driving the success commercial performance of assigned categories, managing buying, pricing, allocation, promotion planning, and stock clearance strategy.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Category Strategy & Assortment Planning
- Analyze market trends, consumer needs, and competitor activity in own assigned categories.
- Build seasonal assortment with HQ aligned to brand strategy and target customer.
- Plan category sales targets and product mix (core vs fashion, price tiers, style balance).
2. Buying & OTB Management
- Prepare category-level OTB and buy plans - present buying proposal and seasonal buying recap.
- Select SKUs based on trend, performance insight, and demand analysis.
- Ensure buy quantities align with sales targets, OTB, and margin plans.
- Negotiate quantities and delivery timelines with HQ.
3. Pricing & Product Positioning
- Propose pricing structure and review initial retail prices per SKU based on positioning, cost, and market benchmarks.
- Monitor pricing effectiveness and margin impact.
- Support markdown, promotion mechanics and clearance planning to protect margin and sell-through.
- Pricing update for incoming / repeat / recolor.
- Inform pricing list at each Mark Down/ESS to operation & online team.
4. Launch & Allocation
- Plan first allocation by store/channel based on capacity, customer profile, sales potential.
- Plan & manage product launching by tracking shipment (weekly, monthly & season shipment forecast). Ensure product will launch as planned.
- Align with Marketing and VM for launch storytelling and visual execution.
- Monitor launch performance and adjust allocation if needed.
- Conduct training on product knowledge and key product selling points.
- Communicate special instruction eg packaging to store & WH
5. Inventory & Product Lifecycle Management
- Monitor stock levels and aging inventory.
- Coordinate with Inventory/Merchandiser for replenishment and consolidation.
- Recommend transfers or returns when needed.
- Plan end-of-season clearance to recover cash flow.
- Markdown list proposal while taking provision stock management into consideration.
- Execute clearance strategy in alignment with Merchandising Manager & Finance to recover cash flow.
6. Performance Review
- Monitor category sales, sell-through, and margin performance by SKU/store/channel.
- Identify bestsellers/slow mover and came up with action plan to maximize sales (replenishment, reallocation, visibility).
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Marketing for product storytelling, content, and key product campaign focus.
- Work with E-commerce to optimize PDP (product development plan), ranking, and online promotions.
