Senior Director

Position Overview

We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Sr. Director – Engineering to lead Full Stack engineering along with AI and Agentic AI platform teams at our The Hartford India.

This executive leadership role will be responsible for building and scaling global specialty engineering teams delivering enterprise-grade digital platforms, shared services, and AIpowered solutions, including agentic AI systems, across multiple business domains globally.

The ideal leader brings deep fullstack engineering expertise, a strong AI-first mindset, and hands-on experience leading AI and autonomous agent teams. The role partners closely with U.S.-based Engineering, Architecture, Product, and AI leadership to embed AI into the software delivery lifecycle, improve developer productivity, and accelerate intelligent automation at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership, AI Vision & Platform Direction

• Partner with U.S.-based engineering, platform, and AI leaders to align Global Specialty and AI delivery with enterprise technology and AI strategies.
• Define and own the Global Specialty Engineering and AI vision, including agentic AI architecture patterns, governance, and operating models.
• Establish a scalable India-based global specialty model integrating:
• Full Stack Engineering (Java or .NET)
• AI / ML Engineering
• Agentic AI & Autonomous Systems
• Drive AI-first engineering strategies, embedding intelligence into customer-facing applications, internal platforms, and SDLC processes.
• Champion responsible AI, explainability, governance, and enterprise-grade AI controls.

Technology Delivery & Engineering Excellence

• Own end-to-end delivery of enterprise platforms, AI-powered applications, APIs, and microservices.
• Ensure consistent execution across architecture, development, testing, deployment, support, and AI lifecycle management.
• Drive cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and API-first design integrated with AI services.
• Lead platform modernization, AI-driven re-engineering, and legacy transformation initiatives.
• Embed AI into application monitoring, incident management, testing, and code quality processes.

AI & Agentic AI Leadership (Core Accountability)

• Build, lead, and scale AI and Agentic AI engineering teams delivering:
• Autonomous agents
• Workflow orchestration agents
• Multi-agent systems
• Decisioning and reasoning-based solutions
• Oversee design and delivery of agentic AI systems integrated with enterprise applications, APIs, data platforms, and cloud services.
• Drive adoption of LLMs, RAG architectures, tool-using agents, and orchestration frameworks.
• Ensure AI solutions are:
• Secure
• Scalable
• Auditable
• Aligned with enterprise risk and compliance standards
• Lead AI platform enablement for use cases across product engineering, operations, developer productivity, and business automation.

People Leadership & Talent Strategy

• Build, mentor, and retain high-performing global specialty engineers and AI professionals.
• Create strong leadership benches including Engineering Managers, Architects, Principal Engineers, and AI Lead roles.
• Develop structured talent paths for:
• Full Stack Engineers
• AI / ML Engineers
• Agentic AI Engineers
• Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Promote cross-pollination between core engineering and AI teams.

Operational Excellence & Governance

• Own delivery governance including capacity planning, budgeting, risk management, and AI governance processes.
• Lead effective incident and problem management, including AI system failures and model performance issues.
• Contribute to monthly operating reviews, AI scorecards, productivity dashboards, and executive metrics.
• Ensure adherence to enterprise security, compliance, data privacy, and responsible AI standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Global Collaboration

• Act as a strategic partner to global business, product, platform, and AI leadership.
• Serve as the primary bridge between India-based engineering & AI teams and global stakeholders.
• Drive transparency, alignment, and execution consistency across geographies.

Required Skills & Experience

• 14–18 years of progressive experience in software engineering and senior technology leadership roles

• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale Java Full Stack or .NET Full Stack engineering organizations in global environments.
• Proven experience building and managing AI and Agentic AI teams in enterprise settings.
• Experience scaling Global Capability Centres (GCCs) or shared engineering hubs.
