About Our Group
Our organization, Process Technology Development (PTD), located at Seagate Korat Slider Factory, is seeking a highly motivated engineer to lead the development and characterization of Head Overcoat (HOC) thin film processes. This role will focus on understanding the physics, deposition behavior, and performance of ultra-thin films including DLC, adhesion layers, buffer layers, transition layer and intermixing layers in the thickness range of 110 . The mission is to enable next-generation slider designs by developing robust, high-performance HOC processes aligned with future product HAMR (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording) roadmaps.
About The Role - You Will
- Lead process and technology development for ultra-thin film HOC stacks including DLC, adhesion, buffer, and transition layers.
- Characterize film properties using advanced metrology tools such as AFM, TEM, STEM, and XPS.
- Collaborate with design, tribology, and reliability teams to define film requirements and validate performance.
- Develop and optimize deposition processes (e.g., PVD, PECVD, ALD, FCA, IBD, IBE) to achieve target thickness, uniformity, and adhesion.
- Develop and optimize etching and sputtering processes for thin film pattern transfer and integration into the slider HOC stack.
- Characterize and control pattern fidelity, film adhesion, and interface quality across ultra-thin layers.
- Investigate film-substrate interactions and failure mechanisms to improve durability and corrosion resistance.
- Own experimental design (DOE), data analysis, and reporting for HOC development projects.
- Drive cross-functional alignment and manage project timelines to meet critical milestones.
- Explore novel materials and process integration strategies to support future slider architectures.
About You
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Materials Science, Physics, Nanotechnology, or related Scientist / Engineering field.
- Strong understanding of thin film physics, surface science, and nanoscale characterization.
- Experience with thin film deposition techniques and process development.
- Familiarity with AFM, TEM, STEM, and surface analysis tools.
- Proficient in data analysis using MATLAB, Python, JMP or similar tools.
- Effective communicator with strong collaboration and project management skills.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
Your Experience Includes
- Hands-on experience in thin film process development and characterization.
- Knowledge of slider mechanical process and tribological performance is a plus.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing technical projects
Location:
Korat, Thailand
Our Korat facility is our largest manufacturing site worldwide, with more than 10,000 employees. Here, our team produces cloud-based storage equipment, from individual storage components to finished drives. Employees enjoy ample on-site parking, free shuttle vans and buses within the city of Korat, as well as transportation to and from Bangkok and Khon Kaen province on weekends. At work, you can grab a delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks at one of our 24/7 on-site canteens or coffee shops. We offer table tennis, basketball, volleyball, a running/walking trail, and exercise classes in our on-site fitness center. In addition, there are relaxing spaces with comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors, perfect for taking a break during the day.
Additionally, consider joining any of our employee resource groups (ERGs), such as Seagate Women in Leadership Network (SWLN), Seagate PRIDE: Thailand chapter, or Seagate Asia's parents and caregivers group. We also have many on-site recreation events and opportunities to give back to the local community.
