Job Purpose

The Engineering Manager leads the plant&aposs transformation to an automated, Industry 4.0-capable manufacturing environment. This role drives innovation and technical excellence to ensure automation and digital projects enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The position has a direct financial impact through managing capital expenditure for automation projects and an indirect impact by improving productivity and reducing labor costs. This role shapes the engineering department&aposs capabilities and supports the wider organization&aposs business strategy and long-term competitiveness.

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategic Automation & Project Leadership: Accountable for the development and execution of the plant&aposs automation roadmap and digital transformation strategy. This includes identifying, prioritizing, and managing new automation projects, new product development, and cost reduction projects from conception through to full implementation and handover, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Technical Excellence & Innovation: Accountable for maintaining a high level of technical competency within the engineering department. This involves staying abreast of the latest Industry 4.0 technologies, introducing innovative solutions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to optimize manufacturing processes and equipment. The role also includes managing and maintaining the technical standards of all engineering work and equipment.
  • Operational & Production Engineering: Accountable for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of all manufacturing processes. This includes performing production capacity assessments to meet business demands and overseeing the Industrial Engineering function to optimize layouts, workflows, and productivity.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Accountable for leading, mentoring, and developing the engineering team. This includes setting clear performance expectations, conducting performance reviews, and identifying training needs to ensure the team possesses the necessary skills to manage and maintain advanced automation systems.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Accountable for managing the engineering department&aposs budget, including capital expenditure for new projects and operational expenses. This involves meticulous planning, cost control, and resource allocation to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Quantitative Criteria:

  • Project Delivery: Percentage of automation projects delivered on time and within budget.
  • ROI on Capital Projects: Measurable return on investment for all major automation projects.
  • OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): Improvement in OEE metrics across automated production lines.
  • Cost Savings: Total cost reduction achieved through process automation and efficiency gains (e.g., labor, waste, energy).
  • Maintenance & Downtime: Reduction in unplanned downtime and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) for critical equipment.

Qualitative Criteria:

  • Innovation & Technical Leadership: Evidence of successfully integrating new technologies (e.g., IoT, AI, data analytics) and fostering a culture of innovation.
  • Team Development: Feedback from team members and supervisors on leadership, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback from cross-functional teams (e.g., Production, Quality, Finance) regarding project collaboration and engineering support.
  • Strategic Alignment: Demonstrated alignment of engineering projects with the plant&aposs long-term business goals and Industry 4.0 vision.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

Education Qualification:

  • B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Physics or related fields
  • At least 10-years experience in Disk Drive or Electronic field
