Role: Senior Manager - AI & Data Engineering

Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Manager - AI & Data Engineering to lead the delivery of high-impact software products, AI capabilities, and trusted data solutions that enable better business decisions and operational outcomes.
This is a leadership role for someone who can operate at the intersection of business, product, software engineering, AI, and modern data platforms - translating complex business problems into scalable, secure, and production-ready technology solutions.
What You'll Do:
- Lead a multidisciplinary team across software engineering, AI, and data engineering, building a high-performing and collaborative technology function.
- Partner with senior business stakeholders to identify opportunities, define outcomes, prioritise initiatives, and translate business needs into technology roadmaps.
- Own delivery end-to-end, from discovery and solution design through development, deployment, adoption, and ongoing operations.
- Provide technical leadership across, cloud-native software, APIs, integrations, CI/ CD, security, reliability, and scalable application architecture.
- Drive modern data engineering and Databricks capabilities, including lakehouse architecture, data pipelines, SQL, Python, dbt, data modelling, governance, quality, and observability.
- Guide the development and of AI/ML, LLM-enabled applications, automation, and agentic workflows, with appropriate evaluation, monitoring, human oversight, and responsible AI practices.
- Establish effective product and agile delivery practices, managing priorities, dependencies, risks, capacity, and delivery commitments.
- Work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Data Governance, Technology, and business teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards.
- Stay technically engaged through architecture reviews, code reviews, complex problem-solving, and engineering decisions while effectively leading and developing the team.
- Establish strong operational ownership covering monitoring, support, incident management, service objectives, lifecycle planning, and cost management.
What We're Looking For:
- Significant experience delivering software, data, and AI capabilities within complex enterprise environments.
- Proven experience leading and developing technical engineering teams and managing multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Strong understanding of software engineering, cloud-native architecture, APIs, integration, testing, CI/CD, security, and reliability.
- Hands-on understanding of Databricks and lakehouse architecture, including pipelines, SQL, Python, dbt, data modeling, and data governance.
- Practical experience with AI/ML and modern AI applications, including LLM solutions, evaluation, observability, responsible AI, and production lifecycle management.
- Strong product and delivery management capabilities, including roadmaps, prioritization, agile delivery, stakeholder management, risk and dependency management.
- Ability to take ambiguous business problems from discovery to measurable business outcomes.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage equally well with executives, business stakeholders, architects, and engineers.
- Experience with capacity planning, budgeting, vendor management, and balancing delivery commitments across a technology portfolio.
- A degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data, AI, or a related discipline.
